Munich-based deeptech company Quantum Systems has raised €160 million in Series C funding to fuel its global expansion and development of autonomous drone systems.

The round was led by Balderton Capital, with participation from defence and aerospace heavyweights including Hensoldt and Airbus Defence and Space, as well as Bullhound Capital, LP&E AG, and returning backers like HV Capital, Project A, and Peter Thiel.

This latest round brings Quantum Systems’ total funding to €310 million, solidifying its position as a leading provider of AI-powered aerial intelligence and drone technology for both military and commercial applications.

Built for modern defence and beyond

Founded in 2015 by Florian Seibel and Sven Kruck, Quantum Systems develops electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) drones and small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) designed for high-frequency, data-rich missions. Their drones are equipped with advanced onboard AI and integrated software for full autonomy, from deployment to data analysis.

Its Vector AI drone, now in active use in conflict zones like Ukraine, enables real-time ISR (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance) even in GPS- and communication-denied environments. Meanwhile, the company’s Drone Port platform supports fully automated aerial operations for defence, public safety, agriculture, and infrastructure inspection.

The company’s clients include NATO-aligned armed forces in Germany, Spain, Ukraine, and Australia, as well as commercial partners like RocketDNA and the Indian Department of Science and Technology.

Strategic defence partnerships and acquisitions

Quantum Systems recently acquired AirRobot, making it a tier-1 supplier to the UK Ministry of Defence. It also expanded into the UK market through the acquisition of Nordic Unmanned UK. Its partnership with the Spanish Armed Forces includes the full adoption of its ISR Family of Systems — Vector and Twister — a first for the company.

Commenting on the round, Balderton General Partner Rana Yared said, “Quantum Systems has the technical excellence, strategic vision, and operational maturity to become a world leader in this critical category.”

Focus on scale, production, and AI advancement

With over 100% year-over-year revenue growth and 550 employees globally, Quantum Systems will use the new capital to scale production, expand internationally, and invest in next-gen drone software and AI. The company’s facilities span Germany, the US, Ukraine, Australia, and Romania.

Co-founder and co-CEO Florian Seibel emphasized the urgency of sovereign aerial intelligence: “Our systems are built for the realities of modern defence—autonomous, interoperable, and proven under harsh conditions. With this support, we’re ready to lead Europe’s aerial intelligence future.”

Sven Kruck, co-CEO, added: “This milestone allows us to expand capacity and meet surging global demand for our drone systems.”

Strategic investor endorsements

  • Airbus Defence and Space CEO Michael Schöllhorn highlighted the role of partnerships like Quantum Systems in Europe’s defence ecosystem: “Autonomous flight innovation is critical, and Quantum brings speed and agility.”
  • Hensoldt CEO Oliver Dörre described the collaboration as essential for building modular, adaptive defence systems aligned with Europe’s sovereignty goals.

As geopolitical tensions rise and the need for rapid, real-time aerial data intensifies, Quantum Systems is positioning itself as a cornerstone of the next generation of AI-powered defence and industrial intelligence platforms.
