Dorset-based cleantech startup Circular11 has raised €2.7 million (£2.4 million) in fresh funding to scale its technology platform that converts difficult-to-recycle plastic waste into low-carbon building materials and consumer products.

The investment round was led by climate-focused investor Vectr7 Investment Partners, alongside participation from The FSE Group, Oxford Innovation Network, private investors, and Innovate UK.

Founded in 2021 by Benjamin Gibbons and Connor Winter, Circular11 is tackling one of the biggest challenges in the circular economy: finding productive uses for low-grade plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfills or incineration facilities.

The company has developed a proprietary recycling and manufacturing process that transforms mixed plastic waste streams into durable construction materials, including fencing, outdoor furniture, landscaping products, and composite lumber.

Tackling The Plastic Waste Challenge

While many recycling systems require highly sorted and clean materials, a significant portion of global plastic waste remains difficult to process economically. Circular11’s technology is designed to overcome this challenge by handling mixed plastic inputs while maintaining consistent material quality.

The platform combines advanced material processing, machine learning, and manufacturing technologies to optimize formulations and maximize the value extracted from waste streams.

As demand grows for sustainable construction materials and alternatives to traditional timber products, Circular11 believes its technology can help address both environmental and supply chain challenges facing the building sector.

Funding To Accelerate Growth

The newly raised capital will be used to expand manufacturing operations, strengthen the company’s technology platform, and support commercial growth as demand for sustainable building materials continues to rise.

The funding follows an earlier €578,000 raise in 2023, which enabled Circular11 to establish its Dorset-based production facility and further develop its machine-learning-driven manufacturing capabilities.

Founder Perspective

Benjamin Gibbons, CEO of Circular11, said:

“Every tonne of plastic that is incinerated represents a missed opportunity to create valuable low-carbon materials for industries that urgently need sustainable alternatives. This investment enables us to expand production, enhance our technology, and accelerate the transition toward a more circular construction industry.”
