New York-based fashion tech startup Alta has secured $11 million in seed funding to launch a personalized AI stylist that brings the iconic digital wardrobe from Clueless to life.
The round was led by Menlo Ventures and joined by notable investors such as Michelle Obama’s stylist Meredith Koop, Algaé Ventures (backed by the Arnault family of LVMH), Phenomenal Ventures, and angel investors including Tony Xu (DoorDash), Karlie Kloss, and Jenny Fleiss (Rent the Runway).
A smarter wardrobe in your pocket
Founded by Harvard-trained engineer Jenny Wang, Alta uses AI to recommend outfits based on lifestyle, budget, weather, and calendar events. Users can upload their closets via photos or receipts and even try on clothes virtually with personalized avatars. The platform also enables outfit planning using a mix of owned and prospective pieces.
Built for scale, designed for style
The funding will fuel team expansion and product development, with Alta continuing to iterate on its proprietary models. The startup has already partnered with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and plans to scale across Europe and Oceania, supported by connections to LVMH and influencer Zita d’Hautville.
More than fashion: a new era for consumer AI
Wang, who previously worked at DoorDash and advised several brands, said Alta fits into a broader wave of AI-driven consumer tech. She emphasized building from the ground up with new architectures and interfaces to meet evolving user expectations. The team, described as both highly technical and fashion-obsessed, represents her long-time dream brought to life.
