Amsterdam-based venture capital firm PureTerra Ventures has launched its second WaterTech-focused fund, starting with a €10M cornerstone investment from Invest-NL, the Netherlands’ national financing and development institution.

The firm is targeting a total fund size of €150M, with capital expected from a mix of public, private, and institutional investors.

The new fund builds on PureTerra Ventures’ strategy of backing early-stage water technology companies addressing industrial water scarcity, quality, and reuse challenges.

Water as a strategic constraint for industry

PureTerra Ventures positions water availability as an increasingly critical factor for industrial competitiveness and growth. According to the firm, water constraints are already shaping investment decisions across sectors, as companies seek solutions for water reuse, efficiency, and quality to avoid operational bottlenecks.

The firm views this shift as both an environmental imperative and an economic opportunity, with demand accelerating for technologies that can be deployed at industrial scale.

Focus on scalable WaterTech solutions

Founded in 2017, PureTerra Ventures invests in early-stage WaterTech startups with advanced hardware or AI-driven software that is ready for commercial deployment. Its investment focus includes technologies enabling industrial water reuse and resource recovery.

The firm supports its portfolio through a global network spanning distributors, utilities, governments, and corporate partners, aiming to accelerate market adoption and scale.

Track record and fund strategy

PureTerra Ventures raised €73M for its first fund, backed by investors including Orange Wings, EIF, Invest-NL, and a.s.r. Fund I has supported 14 water technology startups to date.

Fund II will continue investing in scalable solutions that improve water efficiency, safety, and cleanliness across industries such as energy, food, chemicals, and semiconductors. The firm says the participation of Invest-NL as a cornerstone investor reflects confidence in its long-term strategy.

Strengthening the Dutch water innovation ecosystem

PureTerra Ventures and Invest-NL aim to use the new fund to strengthen the Dutch WaterTech ecosystem while supporting companies with global impact. Invest-NL views water technology as a key pillar in the transition toward a sustainable and future-proof economy, alongside sectors such as agrifood, circular economy, DeepTech, energy, and life sciences.

The fund launch signals continued investor interest in water-focused technologies as water scarcity and quality challenges intensify worldwide.
