X-energy has secured $700 million in fresh Series D funding, pushing its total capital raised in the past year to an unprecedented $1.4 billion.

With this latest round, the company has now raised $1.8 billion to date—placing it among the most heavily funded nuclear technology developers in the world.

Building the Supply Chain for 144 Small Modular Reactors

The new investment will accelerate development and manufacturing capacity for the small modular reactor (SMR) fleet. The company reports firm commitments for 144 Xe-100 reactors, representing 11 gigawatts of future carbon-free power—ordered by customers such as Amazon, Dow and British energy provider Centrica.

X-energy’s Xe-100 is a high-temperature, gas-cooled reactor that generates 80 megawatts of electricity per unit and uses fuel in the form of graphite-coated uranium “pebbles.” Helium circulates through the reactor core to collect heat, which is then converted into power through a conventional steam turbine.

Strong Investor Syndicate Fuels Rapid Scale-Up

The Series D was led by Jane Street, building on its previous participation in X-energy’s expanded Series C. Other backers include Ares Management funds, ARK Invest, Emerson Collective, Segra Capital Management, Point72, NGP, Reaves Asset Management and XTX Ventures.

Their support reflects the rising momentum behind nuclear energy as a reliable backbone for the AI-driven, electricity-hungry future.

Tech Giants Drive a Nuclear Revival

Demand from cloud providers and data-center operators is reshaping the nuclear landscape. Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund led the first half of the Series C, and the company has already announced plans to secure more than 600 MW of nuclear capacity for its infrastructure footprint. Its agreement with X-energy could scale to 5 gigawatts by 2039.

A Race to Bring SMRs to U.S. Soil

While SMRs are progressing globally, no plants have entered operation in the United States. X-energy is competing with multiple nuclear startups to become the first mover in commercializing this technology domestically.

With billions now committed and reactor deployment agreements in place, X-energy is positioning itself as a frontrunner in the next era of nuclear-powered clean energy.
