Montreal-based healthtech startup Vopemed (formerly Vope Medical) has secured $2.29 million CAD in pre-seed funding to accelerate the development and clinical rollout of Claris, its AI-driven image enhancement platform for surgery.
The funding round was led by Genson Capital, which contributed $1.5 million, with Investissement Québec (IQ) adding $750,000. The investment will support R&D expansion, clinical testing, and deeper collaboration with hospitals and surgical teams.
“This funding validates the need for enhanced surgical visualization and reinforces our mission to bring AI-powered image enhancement into every operating room,” said Amy Lorincz, CEO of Vopemed.
Solving Visibility Challenges in Minimally Invasive Surgery
Claris aims to improve video feed quality for laparoscopic and robot-assisted procedures, where limited visibility often complicates precision. Vopemed’s AI-enhanced software addresses these challenges by optimizing surgical visuals in real-time — potentially improving outcomes and operational efficiency.
Vopemed plans to broaden the software’s use across more clinical applications while refining its AI capabilities through ongoing development and hospital partnerships.
A Boost for Montreal’s Healthtech Scene
The investment comes as Montreal experiences growing momentum in early-stage healthtech. Genson Capital has previously backed local biotech firms like Neurenati and Morphocell, while Investissement Québec has recently supported major healthcare innovators including Epitopea and Eli Health.
With new funding and a growing presence in Canada’s medtech ecosystem, the company is positioning itself at the intersection of AI and surgery, aiming to become a standard tool in operating rooms worldwide.
