Upvest, an investment infrastructure provider, has raised $125 million to expand its API-driven platform for financial institutions across Europe and the UK.
The funding includes a $90 million equity round led by Sapphire Ventures and Tencent, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners and BlackRock, alongside a $35 million debt facility currently being finalized. The company aims to support banks, brokers, and wealth managers in modernizing legacy systems and scaling investment services.
What The Company Does
Founded in 2017, Upvest provides regulated, API-based infrastructure that enables financial institutions to offer investment services more efficiently. Its platform supports core functions such as trading, custody, and back-office operations, allowing clients to manage securities transactions and portfolios without building these systems in-house.
The company’s modular approach allows banks and fintech firms to integrate investment capabilities into their existing platforms. By replacing or complementing legacy infrastructure, Upvest helps institutions reduce operational complexity and accelerate the rollout of new financial products.
Upvest’s client base includes digital banks such as DKB and Openbank, as well as fintech companies including Revolut, N26, Webull, and Raisin. The platform currently processes more than 100 million client orders annually across over 30 financial institutions.
Market Context / Industry Background
Financial institutions across Europe are facing increasing pressure to modernize outdated infrastructure while expanding access to investment products for retail customers. Legacy systems, often built decades ago, can limit scalability, increase operational costs, and slow down product innovation.
At the same time, demand for retail investment services has grown, driven by digital banking adoption and increased participation in financial markets. This has created a need for flexible infrastructure that can support high transaction volumes while complying with complex regulatory requirements across different jurisdictions.
API-based platforms have emerged as a key solution, allowing institutions to integrate investment services without overhauling their entire technology stack. Providers like Upvest operate as infrastructure layers, enabling faster product deployment and reducing the technical barriers associated with entering or expanding within the investment services market.
The increasing complexity of tax regulations and pension systems across Europe further reinforces the need for localized, adaptable infrastructure.
Founder / Investor Commentary
Martin Kassing, CEO and co-founder of Upvest, said the company’s focus is on enabling financial institutions to scale their investment offerings in a cost-efficient way.
“Banks, brokers, and wealth managers choose Upvest for the infrastructure needed to grow their investment propositions profitably and at scale for a new generation of investors,” he said.
Kassing also noted that the latest funding reflects continued demand for the company’s platform.
“The $125 million round, just 12 months after our Series C, underscores our momentum to be the top choice for financial institutions launching and scaling investment experiences across Europe,” he added, highlighting the company’s focus on expanding into key markets and supporting new investment models.
Growth Plans / Use Of Funds
Upvest plans to use the newly raised capital to further develop its platform for banking, brokerage, and wealth management clients. A key focus will be enhancing capabilities related to local tax handling and simplifying the deployment of pension products across European markets.
The company is also investing in AI-supported investment features, leveraging real-time execution APIs to enable more automated and personalized investment services for retail users.
In addition, Upvest aims to expand its presence in major European markets, supporting financial institutions in launching localized investment products while maintaining operational efficiency.
The combination of equity funding and debt financing is expected to strengthen the company’s capital base as it continues to scale operations and move toward profitability.
