UpHill, a leading care orchestration platform based in Covilhã, Portugal, has announced a successful Series A funding round, raising €7M. The round was led by Explorer Investments, with contributions from Redstone (and EnjoyVenture), Brighteye Ventures, and MSM fund (Mustard Seed Maze). Additional support came from investors such as Caixa Capital, SCR, S.A., and Luz Saúde.
The newly acquired funds will be utilized to consolidate UpHill’s presence in the Iberian market and facilitate expansion into new territories, including the UK and Spain. Furthermore, the company has ambitious plans to double its team size by the end of 2024.
Democratizing Healthcare Access
Founded in 2015 by Eduardo Freire Rodrigues and Duarte Sequeira, UpHill is on a mission to democratize healthcare access through its innovative software. The platform specializes in developing clinical pathways and decision support systems that automate care and adhere to best practices. By collaborating with healthcare providers and life sciences companies across Europe, UpHill aims to minimize waste related to care variability and fragmentation, thereby enhancing patient outcomes and increasing revenue.
Currently, UpHill boasts partnerships with some of the largest hospitals in Iberia, including ULS Sta Maria, Luz Saúde, ULS Coimbra, and Institut Guttmann. The company’s efforts have led to significant improvements in healthcare delivery, including saving physicians a day per month for chronic care, doubling health teams’ capacity to manage post-surgical patients, and reducing ER admissions by 65% in selected cases.
Introducing Liber: A Next-Generation Care Model
In response to the challenges faced by healthcare institutions, such as growing demand and insufficient capacity, UpHill has launched Liber, a next-generation care model. Liber swiftly addresses acute health issues by facilitating immediate interactions with doctors and enrolling members in disease prevention and health promotion programs.
Eduardo Freire Rodrigues, co-founder of UpHill, emphasized the global need for efficient healthcare solutions, stating, “From here across the globe, those in need have to wait years for surgeries, many months for appointments, and too many hours for acute care. This is unbearable. This is why UpHill exists, and this is why we are just getting started: our platform is the care orchestration software for the decades to come.”
With this Series A funding, the startup is well-positioned to further its vision of improving healthcare access and efficiency, marking a significant step forward in the company’s growth and impact on the healthcare industry.
