German battery manufacturer UniverCell has secured €30 million in a Series B funding round to expand its lithium-ion cell production capabilities and advance its battery technologies.
The round was co-led by DeepTech & Climate Fonds, IKA, and WIKA, with additional support from the European Innovation Council Fund.
Scaling Battery Manufacturing In Europe
Founded in 2019 in Kiel, UniverCell develops and produces lithium-ion battery cells and electrodes for high-performance applications. The company has grown to more than 80 employees and operates a production facility in northern Germany with capacity exceeding 1.5 GWh.
Its batteries are designed for specialized industries including aerospace, satellite technology, and critical medical systems where reliability and performance are essential.
The Series B funding will be used to increase production capacity, advance proprietary cell technologies, and strengthen Europe’s battery manufacturing ecosystem.

Focus On Industrial Manufacturing Expertise
UniverCell’s approach centers on optimizing industrial battery production processes, particularly electrode manufacturing and cell assembly.
The company produces 21700 cylindrical lithium-ion cells featuring tabless designs and lightweight aluminum housings. Its production systems are designed to ensure consistent manufacturing quality, low material waste, and the flexibility to adapt production lines for custom battery configurations.
By controlling key elements of the production process internally, UniverCell aims to maintain high levels of reliability while supporting rapid customization for specialized applications.
Advancing Sustainable Battery Technology
In addition to expanding manufacturing capacity, the company is continuing to develop new electrode production techniques.
These innovations focus on improving battery performance while reducing production costs and environmental impact, which is becoming increasingly important as regulatory requirements and sustainability expectations continue to evolve in the battery industry.
