Breda-based The Protein Brewery has secured €30M in a Series B round led by new investors Invest-NL and Brabant Development Agency (BOM), with participation from existing backers Novo Holdings, Unovis Asset Management, and Madeli.

The raise comes four years after its Series A.

Scaling Fermotein in the US and EU

The funding will accelerate the commercial rollout of Fermotein, the company’s fungi-based protein ingredient, in the US and Europe. It will also support expansion of the Mijkenbroek production facility and further development of the Fermotein innovation platform to unlock new nutritional applications.

CEO Thijs Bosch said:

“This funding is a springboard for global expansion. With Fermotein, we’re not just offering another protein – we’re redefining how food is made: nutritious, sustainable, and scalable at lower cost.”

Fermotein: High-protein, fibre-rich and scalable

Founded in 2020, The Protein Brewery uses fermentation to create Fermotein, a high-protein, high-fibre ingredient that is tasteless and odourless. This versatility allows it to be used across baked goods, dairy alternatives, protein shakes, functional bars, and meal replacements.

Thanks to its unique fungal strain and patented production process, Fermotein can be produced at lower cost than many alt-proteins, making it easier to scale. Beyond nutrition, the company is researching Fermotein’s impact on satiety and metabolic health via GLP-1 pathways.

Market rollout

The Protein Brewery is preparing launches with US partners in the coming months and expanding in Singapore. Entry into the EU and UK will follow regulatory approvals.
