Test of Things, a cybersecurity startup, has raised €1.2 million in a pre-seed round to develop an automated compliance and security testing platform for IoT devices.

The round was led by Vendep Capital, with participation from industry investors including Aapo Oksman, Zach Shelby, Neil Costigan, ScanABC, and support from Business Finland. The funding will be used to further build the company’s platform and support early market adoption.

What The Company Does

Founded in 2024, Test of Things develops a cloud-based platform that automates cybersecurity testing and compliance processes for Internet of Things (IoT) products. Its solution is designed to help manufacturers ensure that connected devices meet global security standards before entering the market.

The platform replaces manual testing workflows with automated processes, enabling companies to identify vulnerabilities, validate compliance requirements, and document results more efficiently. This reduces both the time and cost associated with preparing connected products for deployment.

By integrating testing and compliance into a single system, Test of Things aims to simplify security assurance for manufacturers operating across multiple regulatory environments.

Market Context / Industry Background

The rapid growth of connected devices has increased the complexity of cybersecurity management, particularly as IoT products are deployed across consumer, industrial, and critical infrastructure environments. Ensuring that these devices are secure is becoming a regulatory and operational priority for companies operating in increasingly interconnected systems.

However, existing cybersecurity testing processes are often manual, fragmented, and difficult to scale. This creates challenges for manufacturers, particularly as regulatory requirements evolve and become more stringent. Companies must navigate a patchwork of standards, certifications, and compliance frameworks across multiple jurisdictions, adding operational burden, cost, and delays in product development cycles.

Unsecured devices can act as entry points for cyberattacks, posing significant risks to personal data, enterprise systems, and critical infrastructure such as energy networks. As a result, there is growing demand for automated solutions that can standardise and streamline security validation across the product lifecycle.

The growing number of connected devices has significantly expanded the attack surface for malicious actors. From smart home devices to industrial sensors, vulnerabilities in a single endpoint can compromise entire networks, making continuous and proactive security testing essential rather than optional.

Regulators (particularly in Europe) are introducing stricter cybersecurity requirements, including mandatory compliance frameworks and certification schemes for connected products. This increases pressure on manufacturers to implement robust security practices early in development and maintain them throughout the lifecycle.

Automation is emerging as a key enabler. Automated compliance and security testing platforms help reduce time-to-market, lower costs, and ensure consistent adherence to evolving standards across the entire product lifecycle.

Founder / Investor Commentary

Rauli Kaksonen, CTO and co-founder, stated that the funding will enable the company to continue developing its platform and support manufacturers in building trust with customers and regulators through secure products.

Marko Kaasila, CEO and co-founder, highlighted structural issues in current cybersecurity practices, noting that manual and non-systematic approaches are increasingly unsustainable given the scale and complexity of connected devices.

Growth Plans / Use Of Funds

The €1.2 million investment will be used to advance product development, enhance platform capabilities, and support initial customer acquisition.

The company aims to expand its automation features and improve coverage of global compliance standards, positioning its platform as a scalable solution for manufacturers managing security across diverse markets.
