Swedish defence manufacturing company Sweden Ballistics (SWEBAL) has secured €30 million in funding to complete the construction of its TNT production facility in Nora, Sweden.
Founded in 2024, the company is focused on strengthening European and NATO defence supply chains by establishing domestic production of critical energetic materials, including TNT, which has become increasingly scarce across Europe.
The funding round included backing from investors such as Karl Engelbrektson, Pär Svärdson, and Thomas von Koch, alongside several Swedish family offices.
Addressing Europe’s Ammunition Supply Challenges
Europe’s defence sector has faced mounting pressure since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with growing ammunition demand exposing shortages in critical explosives and energetic materials needed for artillery shells, drone systems, mines, and other military equipment.
Sweden Ballistics aims to help close this gap by building a large-scale TNT manufacturing capability in Northern Europe.
The company received environmental permits in late 2025 followed by development approval in early 2026, allowing the project to move into construction.
Once operational, the facility is expected to produce more than 4,000 tonnes of TNT annually, supporting European defence manufacturers and reducing reliance on imported materials and long-distance supply chains.

Supporting European Defence Resilience
According to co-founder and CEO Joakim Sjöblom, the investment comes at a critical moment for European security and defence production.
He noted that governments across Europe are rapidly expanding military manufacturing capacity in response to geopolitical instability, rising defence budgets, and persistent ammunition shortages.
The new funding will help complete the Nora facility while strengthening regional supply security for defence manufacturing across NATO and allied markets.
