Superlight, a commercial electric vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Yateley, UK, has raised an oversubscribed $21M Series A co-led by Engine Ventures and 2150, bringing total funding to date to $33M.
The company designs and builds electric box trucks specifically engineered for middle mile logistics, combining aerospace design principles with a software-centric manufacturing process. The capital will be used to complete its UK manufacturing facility, fulfill initial sales in the UK and EU, and prepare vehicles for US market entry.
Addressing The Market Opportunity
Middle mile logistics, the movement of goods between regional distribution centers and local sorting facilities, is a segment that has seen significant demand growth as consumer expectations for overnight delivery push distribution infrastructure into urban areas. The global middle mile market is projected to reach $137.97B in 2026.
Despite this scale, the segment has received comparatively little innovation investment. Commercial EV capital has concentrated on first mile tractor trailers and last mile light vans, leaving middle mile electric box trucks largely reliant on designs carried over from diesel vehicles. Superlight was built to address this gap directly.
How The Technology Works
Superlight’s OV-1 vehicle is built from a clean sheet rather than adapted from an existing diesel platform. The design applies aerospace engineering principles and an all-digital powertrain to achieve 50 percent more cargo capacity and 50 percent lower energy costs compared to 7.5-tonne truck competitors, generating 73 percent in energy cost savings per pallet per kilometer. The manufacturing process requires one tenth of the capital of conventional heavy industry truck production.
The company’s production system is digital-first and AI-native, built around two core capabilities. SuperVisor is a digital twin of Superlight’s factory that monitors shopfloor production in real time, runs continuous improvement loops, and predicts quality issues before they occur. Its Autonomous Logistics and Integrated Service system draws on vehicle and fleet sensor data to proactively optimize performance and driver behavior.
Superlight owns the entire chain of designing, building, and delivering its vehicles, giving the company direct control over the features and improvements it can bring to customers over time. The platform incorporates more than 70 proprietary inventions across design, materials, software, and battery technology.
Growth And Market Traction
Founded in 2016 by Noamaan and Sheban Siddiqi, Superlight has accumulated more than 500,000 kilometers of powertrain mileage, including commercial pilots of the OV-1 in the UK with major e-commerce and ground handling providers. The leadership team brings experience from Bentley Motors, DENSO, Porsche, Microsoft, and other automotive, aerospace, and software organizations.
Expansion Plans
The Series A will fund completion of Superlight’s UK manufacturing facility and fulfillment of its initial sales pipeline in the UK and EU. The company will also prepare federalized vehicles for customer testing as part of its entry into the US market.
Looking Ahead
Noamaan Siddiqi, co-founder and CEO of Superlight, described the structural advantage of designing for electric from the ground up: “By harnessing the inherent advantages of electric propulsion and software-centric manufacturing, we’re flipping the economics of commercial EVs, unlocking massive cost savings that also happen to provide significant environmental benefits. Our purpose-built EV platform enables transformative performance and safety advantages that can’t be duplicated by retrofitting electric into legacy trucks.”
Israel Ruiz, President and General Partner at Engine Ventures, outlined the investment case: “Superlight is on a mission to modernize commercial trucks, a crucial component of modern society that has experienced surprisingly little innovation in nearly a century. By replacing legacy manufacturing and driving mechanics with a new architecture, the company has an opportunity to deliver massive performance, safety, efficiency and cost improvements to brands, fleet owners and transport companies, while at the same time wiping out particulate matter emissions.”
