UK-based StudentCrowd has raised $9 million in Series A funding to accelerate product development and expand its footprint beyond the UK.

The round was led by YFM Equity Partners, with additional backing from the Midlands Engine Investment Fund II via Mercia Ventures.

Scaling A Data Platform For Student Decisions

Founded by Paul Humphreys and Pete Sisson, StudentCrowd provides verified reviews and data insights covering student accommodation, universities, and courses.

The platform helps students make more informed decisions by offering authentic, experience-based feedback alongside detailed property and course information.

With more than 14 million users, StudentCrowd has built one of the largest datasets in the student housing and higher education space. Its data is increasingly being integrated into AI-powered search tools and large language models, further extending its reach and utility.

Expansion Into The US And Beyond

The newly raised capital will be used to enhance the platform’s capabilities, drive innovation, and support expansion into international markets, particularly the United States.

According to CEO Paul Humphreys, the company aims to bring greater transparency to the global student accommodation market.

“Our goal is to ensure every student can confidently choose where to live and study, guided by real, verified experiences,” he said. “As we explore markets like mainland Europe and the US, we’re seeing similar challenges—and working with partners to bring our platform to these regions.”
