SolidWatts has secured CHF 1.8 million in seed funding to accelerate the development and commercial rollout of its next-generation industrial heating technology.
The round includes continued backing from Evercurious VC, Kickfund, and Axel Carbon Capital, alongside new investors such as Uni.Fund, Investing for Purpose, Loggerhead Ventures, Almanac Ventures, and several angel investors.
Rethinking Industrial Heating
SolidWatts is developing advanced solid-state RF (radio frequency) technology to modernise industrial heating processes.
Its system enables high-power dielectric heating at scale, offering an energy-efficient alternative to conventional fossil fuel-based methods such as boilers and furnaces.
Driving Electrification And Sustainability
The company’s technology is designed to help energy-intensive industries transition to cleaner, electrified operations. Target sectors include chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food processing, carbon capture, and advanced recycling.
By improving efficiency and reducing emissions, SolidWatts aims to support industrial decarbonisation efforts, with backing from organisations such as the Swiss Climate Foundation.
High Efficiency Through RF Technology
The system operates similarly to a microwave, using electromagnetic waves to heat materials internally through dielectric heating.
Compared to traditional heating systems, it can convert more than 80% of electrical energy into usable heat, while also offering lower maintenance requirements and improved reliability.
From CERN Research To Industrial Application
SolidWatts was founded in 2022 by Dr. Markus Aicheler, a former postdoctoral researcher at CERN.
The idea emerged from observing how high-power solid-state RF technology is used in scientific research, and recognising its potential to replace fossil fuels in industrial processes.
Scaling Toward Industrial Deployment
The newly raised capital will be used to increase the power capacity of the platform and launch pilot projects with industrial partners.
These pilots aim to demonstrate how electrified heating can reduce both energy costs and carbon emissions in real-world industrial settings.
