Amsterdam-based SkyNRG has secured €250 million in funding from APG, the Netherlands’ largest pension services provider, to accelerate the development of its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) infrastructure.

The capital injection, made on behalf of APG’s pension fund client ABP, marks a milestone investment in the SAF sector as global aviation shifts toward decarbonization.

Expansion plans span the Netherlands, Sweden, and the US

The new funding—part of a larger €300 million round—will support the construction of SAF production plants in Delfzijl (Netherlands), Sweden (Project SkyKraft), and the US (Project Wigeon). These facilities will serve as a foundation for SkyNRG’s strategy to replace fossil jet fuels with sustainable alternatives at scale.

A frontrunner in clean aviation fuel

Founded in 2009, SkyNRG has been at the forefront of the SAF movement, partnering with major players like KLM, Microsoft, and Boeing. The company has supplied SAF to over 130 customers worldwide and operates with guidance from an independent Sustainability Board. It holds certifications including RSB EU RED and CORSIA compliance, and is a certified B Corp.

Backing from long-term investors

Maarten van Dijk, CEO and co-founder of SkyNRG, called the investment “a major step forward,” noting it reinforces the market’s readiness for dedicated SAF production. APG’s involvement joins that of Macquarie Asset Management (MAM), which invested in SkyNRG in 2023.

Industry validation for aviation’s energy transition

“This investment demonstrates the SAF market is maturing,” said Arjan Reinders, Head of Infrastructure Europe at APG. “We’re backing a company that’s helping the aviation industry transition toward net-zero emissions by 2050.”

With this new capital and institutional backing, SkyNRG is positioned to scale production and accelerate adoption of sustainable fuels—paving the way for cleaner skies.
