Saltz, a Vilnius-based digital marketplace for the food supply industry, has raised €20 million in a Series A funding round to support expansion across European markets and further develop its cross-border food trade platform.

The round included investment from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Inovo, Lifeline Ventures, and Change Ventures, alongside strategic angel investors such as Vinted co-founder Mantas Mikuckas, Wolt founder Miki Kuusi, and several Shopify executives. The company plans to use the funding to scale its operations and grow its workforce significantly over the next two years.

What The Company Does

Founded by Andrius Šlimas, Tomas Šlimas, and Reinis Štrodahs, Saltz operates a digital marketplace designed to connect professional kitchens directly with food suppliers.

The platform integrates supplier catalogs, ordering systems, payments, and logistics into a single digital interface accessible through both web and mobile applications. By centralizing these processes, Saltz aims to replace many of the manual and fragmented workflows traditionally used in food distribution.

Restaurants and professional kitchens often rely on multiple distributors to source ingredients, which can involve navigating inconsistent pricing, placing orders through different systems, and coordinating deliveries across several vendors.

Saltz aggregates suppliers onto one platform, allowing kitchens to compare products, manage orders, and handle payments through a unified system. At the same time, suppliers gain access to a broader customer base and tools that support logistics and payment management.

Market Context / Industry Background

Food distribution remains one of the largest but least digitized segments of the global supply chain. Many restaurants still rely on offline procurement processes, phone orders, and fragmented distributor networks.

This lack of digital infrastructure can make sourcing products inefficient for restaurants while limiting the ability of suppliers to reach new customers or provide additional services such as flexible payment terms and integrated logistics.

Digital marketplaces have transformed several retail sectors by connecting buyers and suppliers through centralized platforms that streamline transactions and increase transparency. Similar approaches are increasingly being applied to food supply chains as the hospitality industry looks for more efficient procurement systems.

By digitizing procurement workflows and integrating logistics and payments, companies in this space aim to reduce administrative overhead while improving access to suppliers across different regions.

Founder / Investor Commentary

Saltz co-founder Andrius Šlimas said the company aims to build digital infrastructure that modernizes food distribution across Europe.

“We see a clear path to establishing Saltz as the leading infrastructure for food distribution in Europe and beyond,” Šlimas said.

“This funding will allow us to build at speed, invest in better experiences for both chefs and suppliers, and set higher standards for transparency and efficiency in the food supply industry.”

The company’s leadership believes that bringing greater transparency and digital coordination to food sourcing can benefit both restaurants and suppliers by simplifying transactions and improving market access.

Growth Plans / Use Of Funds

Saltz plans to use the €20 million Series A funding to expand its platform across additional European markets and increase the number of suppliers available through the marketplace.

The company currently operates in 20 countries and provides chefs access to a range of products including fresh and frozen meat and seafood.

As part of its growth strategy, Saltz will invest in product development, engineering, and platform infrastructure designed to support cross-border food trade.

The company also plans to significantly expand its workforce, aiming to add more than 100 employees by 2026 across engineering, product development, sales, and operational teams.

By expanding supplier networks and strengthening its technology platform, Saltz aims to build a large-scale digital marketplace that supports food sourcing across multiple European markets.
