Amsterdam-based speech AI startup Reson8 has raised €5 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Balderton Capital, with participation from NP Hard.
The company is developing highly customisable speech recognition technology tailored to European languages, aiming to address performance gaps beyond English and meet growing demand for data sovereignty.
Rethinking Speech Recognition For Europe
While speech recognition systems perform well in English, accuracy often declines significantly across European languages, regional dialects, and industry-specific terminology.
Reson8 is addressing this challenge with a new approach that focuses on acoustic precision and real-time adaptability. Its models can be adjusted dynamically using contextual inputs such as documents, websites, or calendars, allowing more accurate transcription without retraining large systems.
Instead of relying on general-purpose models, the platform uses modular components that adapt speech recognition to specific conversations, improving accuracy without adding latency.
Built For Industry-Specific Use Cases
The technology is designed to perform in environments where language is highly specialised.
In healthcare, it supports complex medical terminology and clinical shorthand. In legal settings, it adapts to contract language and jurisdiction-specific vocabulary. In customer support, it recognises product names and brand-specific terms in real time.
This approach enables more reliable speech recognition in professional contexts where precision is critical.
European Infrastructure And Data Control
Reson8 is building and operating its own infrastructure in Europe, rather than relying on external cloud providers.
This allows customers to maintain control over data residency while aligning with regulatory requirements that increasingly favour European-hosted AI solutions.
At launch, the platform will support more than 20 European languages, targeting a long-standing quality gap in non-English speech recognition.
Funding To Scale Technology And Team
The newly raised capital will be used to expand infrastructure capacity, further develop the company’s speech models, and grow the team.
Reson8 plans to focus on high-impact hiring while continuing to refine its technology stack and deployment capabilities.
