Delft-based Renset, a clean energy startup developing mobile battery systems for off-grid applications, has raised €600,000 to accelerate the shift from diesel generators to cleaner, more efficient power solutions in the construction and events industries.

The funding round was led by Vliegwiel Impact, with continued support from existing backers Barry McNicholas, David Beaty, and Pieter van ’t Veer. The new capital will help Renset scale production, expand deployments, and meet the growing demand for sustainable, on-site energy systems across Europe.

“We believe in the power of creativity and innovation to drive sustainable progress,” said the Renset team. “Our mission is to replace outdated, polluting generators with clean, circular energy solutions that work for both people and the planet.”

Tackling construction’s dirty energy problem

Construction sites, utilities, and outdoor events still rely heavily on diesel and petrol generators—a major source of CO₂ emissions, air pollution, and noise.

A typical 5 kVA diesel generator emits around 50 kilograms of CO₂ per day and converts only 40% of its fuel into usable electricity, making it both inefficient and costly to operate.

The firm’s portable, battery-based alternative is designed to change that.

Clean, modular, and built for real-world use

Founded in 2022 by Teun van ’t Veer and Stijn van ’t Veer, Renset builds lightweight, waterproof battery systems optimized for rugged environments like construction sites, festivals, and utility work zones.

Each unit weighs about 50 kilograms—making it easy to transport and deploy—and uses swappable battery packs for continuous operation. Its modular design includes four 1 kWh slots, offering up to 4 kWh of scalable capacity to meet varying power demands.

Unlike diesel generators, Renset’s systems are silent, emission-free, and energy-efficient, helping organizations reduce both carbon footprint and operational costs.

Scaling clean power for heavy industries

With its new funding, Renset plans to ramp up manufacturing, expand pilot programs, and accelerate adoption among large construction and utility firms. The company aims to make clean, mobile energy the standard for temporary and off-grid operations—reducing dependence on fossil fuels and supporting the EU’s broader decarbonization goals.
