Rainbow Weather has raised $5.5M in seed funding to push forward its approach to short-term, high-precision weather forecasting, targeting a segment the company believes is still poorly served by traditional providers.
Based in Warsaw, Rainbow Weather specialises in hyperlocal forecasts that focus on the next few hours rather than days ahead. Its core product delivers minute-by-minute precipitation predictions, updating every ten minutes and mapped to a one-square-kilometre grid.
When users check the app, they receive a rolling four-hour forecast starting from that exact moment, a level of temporal and spatial accuracy the company says differentiates it from mainstream weather apps.
Rethinking Short-Term Forecasting Models
Most established weather services still rely on simplified cloud-tracking techniques or large-scale numerical models designed for longer forecasting horizons. Rainbow Weather argues that these systems often fail when conditions shift rapidly.
Instead, the company uses machine learning to combine high-resolution data from radar, satellites, weather stations, and smartphone sensors. By fusing multiple data sources, the platform reduces noise and bias while reacting faster to real-time atmospheric changes.
From Rain Prediction To Real-Time Risk Awareness
While the app initially focused on short-term precipitation, Rainbow Weather has expanded into tracking extreme events such as wildfires and hurricanes. Recent deployments during major wildfire incidents highlight the company’s ambition to evolve into a broader real-time risk awareness platform.
This shift reflects growing demand for immediate, actionable weather intelligence as climate volatility increases.
Funding And Growth Plans
The seed round was backed by a group of international investors, including Yuri Gurski, founder of Flo Health. The new capital will be used to extend forecast horizons from four hours to 24, add more weather parameters, and expand Rainbow Weather’s B2B offerings.
Industries such as logistics, agriculture, aviation, and drone operations are key targets, as they rely heavily on accurate near-term forecasts.
Traction And Industry Transparency
Rainbow Weather has surpassed one million app installs and launched APIs for businesses that require highly reliable weather intelligence. It has also partnered with a long-term forecasting provider, supplying near-term data to improve broader climate models.
Alongside its commercial products, the team maintains weatherindex.ai, an open platform that benchmarks short-term precipitation forecasts from major providers against verified airport weather data. This transparency-driven approach is uncommon in an industry where accuracy is rarely measured publicly.
