QuTwo, an AI research lab founded by former AMD Silo AI CEO Peter Sarlin, has reached a €325 million valuation following a €25 million angel funding round.
The round reflects continued investor interest in AI infrastructure, quantum-adjacent computing, and European sovereign technology development.
What The Company Does
QuTwo is developing an orchestration platform called QuTwo OS, designed to route computational workloads across classical, quantum, and hybrid computing architectures. Rather than focusing solely on quantum hardware, the system is built to optimise task allocation depending on workload requirements and available compute resources.
A key part of the approach is “quantum-inspired” computing, where classical systems are used to simulate quantum-like behaviour for certain workloads. This is intended to support enterprise applications that do not yet require full-scale quantum hardware but can benefit from advanced optimisation techniques.
The company positions itself primarily as an enterprise AI systems lab, with quantum computing viewed as one component of a broader compute strategy rather than its sole focus.
Market Context / Industry Background
European AI and deeptech companies have seen increasing investor momentum, particularly in areas related to foundational AI systems, advanced compute infrastructure, and sovereign technology capabilities. Several research-driven AI labs in Europe have recently raised large funding rounds, reflecting competition with U.S.-based frontier AI companies.
At the same time, enterprise demand for AI systems continues to expand across sectors such as retail, automotive, life sciences, and gaming. These industries often require scalable AI infrastructure that can integrate with existing systems while supporting complex optimisation and automation tasks.
Quantum computing remains in an early stage of development, but hybrid and quantum-inspired approaches are increasingly seen as a transitional layer between classical systems and future quantum hardware.
Meanwhile policy support across the European Union is increasingly focused on strengthening domestic AI and semiconductor capabilities, with initiatives aimed at reducing dependency on external technology providers. This includes funding programmes for startups and research institutions as well as cross-border collaboration between industry and academia to accelerate innovation and commercialisation of advanced technologies and strategic deployment of compute resources across member states alongside efforts to build long-term talent pipelines in AI and deeptech ecosystems across Europe in coming years ahead
Founder / Investor Commentary
Executive chairman Peter Sarlin said QuTwo is fundamentally an AI company, with quantum computing serving as an extension of next-generation compute rather than its core identity. He described AI as the company’s primary focus and long-term direction.
Sarlin also emphasised that QuTwo is being built with a longer-term horizon of five to ten years, aiming to develop foundational infrastructure for what he described as the next paradigm in computing. He noted that Europe has an opportunity to build globally relevant AI companies for future technology cycles.
Growth Plans / Use Of Funds
The angel round will support QuTwo’s continued expansion and hiring across Europe, including its recent growth into Sweden. The company has reportedly built a team of around 50 researchers and engineers spanning AI and quantum-related disciplines.
The funding is also expected to support further development of QuTwo OS and expansion of design partnerships with enterprise clients. Early collaborations have included work with companies such as Zalando, where the system has been used to develop AI-driven assistants and enterprise tools.
Sarlin indicated that the investor base may also help the company expand its network across Europe, particularly through strategic introductions in key industrial and technology sectors.
