Preply, a Ukrainian-founded language learning platform, has raised $150M in a Series D funding round to accelerate global growth and deepen its AI capabilities while maintaining a strong focus on human-led instruction.

The round was led by WestCap, with participation from Índico Capital Partners.

Scaling a global tutor marketplace

The funding brings Preply’s total capital raised to approximately $299M and values the company at around $1.2B. The platform connects more than 100,000 tutors with learners in over 180 countries, offering one-on-one lessons across more than 90 languages.

Preply’s model centres on personalised tutoring, pairing human teachers with an AI-powered co-pilot that supports lesson planning, progress tracking, and learning efficiency.

Keeping humans at the core of learning

While many education platforms are shifting toward full automation, Preply continues to emphasise real human interaction. The company positions AI as an augmentation layer rather than a replacement for tutors.

According to its 2025 Efficiency Study conducted with LeanLab Education, the vast majority of learners report that real conversations with human tutors significantly improve confidence and learning outcomes.

Operational progress and European growth

Since establishing a major hub in Barcelona’s 22@ innovation district, Preply has strengthened its presence in Southern Europe as part of its global expansion strategy.

Following its previous funding round, the company has more than tripled the number of bookable tutors on the platform, added over 40 new languages, and improved operational performance, achieving EBITDA-positive results over the past year.

Product, AI, and team expansion

With the new capital, Preply plans to invest further in AI and data infrastructure, expand its product and engineering teams, and continue refining the platform experience for both learners and tutors.

The company aims to accelerate international growth while continuing to blend human expertise with technology, positioning itself as a long-term leader in personalised language education worldwide.
