Polar Signals, the Berlin-based creator of the continuous profiling product Parca, has announced securing an additional $6.8M (approximately €6.2M) in funding. This round, led by Spark Capital, brings the total funds raised to $10.8M (approximately €9.8M).

The investment round also saw participation from GV, Lightspeed, Haystack, Lorimer, and a distinguished group of angel investors, including Guillermo Rauch, Julius Volz, Monica Sarbu, Jimmy Zelinskie, Nikhil Benesch, and Erik Bernhardsson.

In conjunction with this funding, Polar Signals welcomed Frederic Branczyk, Natalie Vais, and Alex Polvi as independent board members. The company also introduced AI-driven Performance Optimizations, a new feature that leverages AI to suggest direct improvements to source code for select customers.

“We’re excited to make the Alpha of AI-driven Performance Optimizations available to a select group of customers today! This is just the beginning of this feature, but we’ve been experimenting with this for some time and want to get it into the hands of our customers as early as possible to gather feedback and improve it in the coming months,” said Branczyk.

Leading the Observability Industry with Continuous Profiling

Founded in 2020 by Frederic Branczyk, an early employee at CoreOS and RedHat and a prominent figure in the Prometheus and Kubernetes communities, Polar Signals is on a mission to transform the understanding and optimization of high-performance systems. The company focuses on “continuous profiling,” which involves gathering application performance data in real time and providing it to developers for thorough analysis.

By capturing detailed profiles of running programs, Polar Signals’ platform allows engineers to understand resource usage down to the function and line number. This level of detail is challenging to achieve with traditional observability tools, but Polar Signals utilizes technologies such as eBPF to collect data continuously, with minimal overhead and zero instrumentation.

Revolutionizing System Behavior Insight with Parca

Parca, Polar Signals’ flagship open-source product, offers simple deployment, no dependencies, and deep integration with Kubernetes. Through continuous profiling, Polar Signals provides unprecedented insight into system behavior, enabling every company building and operating software to gain deeper insights into CPU usage, memory allocations, and overall system performance.

This not only facilitates cost optimization but also improves latency, directly contributing to better user experiences. Recently, California-based cloud company Vercel announced Polar Signals as their continuous profiling platform, highlighting the product’s resilience under intense situations such as DDoS attacks.

With this new funding, Polar Signals is poised to further its impact in the observability industry, offering developers and companies innovative tools to pinpoint exactly what parts of their code contribute to resource usage, thereby enhancing both cost efficiency and user experience.
