Passion Capital, a venture capital firm founded in 2011, has closed its fourth seed fund, Passion IV, alongside two special purpose vehicles, bringing total fresh capital to €46 million ($55 million).
The fund is fully backed by private investors and will continue focusing on early-stage startups across AI, fintech, and enterprise risk in the UK and Europe.
What The Company Does
Passion Capital is an early-stage venture capital firm that invests in technology startups at the seed stage. Its focus spans artificial intelligence, fintech, and enterprise software, with an emphasis on backing founders from the earliest phases of company building.
The firm provides capital and operational support to startups developing scalable technology products. Over time, its portfolio has included more than 100 companies, among them Monzo, Tide, GoCardless, Lendable, and PolyAI, which collectively reflect its strong focus on fintech and applied AI.
Across its investment activity, Passion Capital has contributed to the creation of five fintech unicorns, positioning itself as one of the more established early-stage investors in the European tech ecosystem.
Market Context / Industry Background
Early-stage venture capital in Europe has remained active despite broader market cycles, with continued investor interest in AI-driven companies and fintech infrastructure. The UK in particular has maintained a strong position as a hub for fintech innovation, supported by regulatory frameworks and a mature startup ecosystem.
AI has increasingly become a defining theme across early-stage investing, influencing both company formation and operational efficiency. Investors are also placing greater emphasis on capital efficiency and sustainable scaling, particularly in a higher interest rate environment.
Within this context, seed-stage funds continue to play a critical role in bridging the gap between early innovation and later-stage institutional capital, especially in sectors such as financial services and enterprise software.
At the same time, competition for high-quality deal flow has intensified, with funds increasingly relying on specialised sector expertise to identify differentiated opportunities. Co-investment strategies and syndication between venture firms have also become more common, allowing investors to share risk while participating in larger funding rounds. As the ecosystem matures, there is a growing focus on supporting portfolio companies beyond capital, including access to networks, operational guidance, and international expansion support. This is increasingly relevant as founders scale across multiple markets and navigate varying regulatory environments. Overall, the environment continues to evolve.
Founder / Investor Commentary
Greg Bennett, CFA, Partner at Passion Capital, highlighted the importance of the firm’s limited partners in enabling its investment strategy, noting that long-term backing has been central to its ability to support founders consistently across cycles.
He also pointed to the role of AI in accelerating startup execution, suggesting that founders are now able to build and iterate more efficiently than in previous cycles. His comments reflect a broader shift in venture capital toward AI-enabled productivity across portfolio companies.
Growth Plans / Use Of Funds
The new fund will be deployed into early-stage investments across AI, fintech, and enterprise risk startups in the UK and Europe. Passion Capital intends to continue its strategy of backing companies at the seed stage and supporting them through early growth phases.
The firm will also maintain its focus on identifying high-potential founders and providing them with access to its network and operational expertise. Recent portfolio liquidity events and exits are expected to support continued reinvestment and portfolio expansion.
