UK-based sustainable grocery delivery company Modern Milkman has raised £10M in a funding round led by Salica Investments, bringing total funding to more than £60M.

Founded in 2019 by Simon Mellin, Modern Milkman began as a digital-first milk delivery service and has since evolved into a nationwide grocery platform. The company operates an optimized supply chain that sources fresh produce and everyday essentials directly from independent British suppliers.

Through its app-based platform, Modern Milkman automates ordering and delivery routes to better align supply with demand, helping to reduce food waste while improving efficiency. Customers receive groceries and breakfast items up to three times per week using reusable glass bottles and returnable packaging, creating a closed-loop delivery system that minimizes single-use plastics.

Strong demand for sustainable grocery alternatives

Mellin said the business offers a convenient and distinctive alternative for households seeking more sustainable shopping habits. He added that the latest funding will be used to develop additional integrated doorstep services, building on strong customer satisfaction and growing demand for environmentally responsible options.

Today, Modern Milkman serves more than 100,000 households across the UK. In January 2024, the company expanded into the U.S. market through a strategic acquisition, marking its first step outside the UK.

Investing in logistics and future services

The new capital will be used to further scale the company’s logistics platform and expand its doorstep delivery model. The company plans to introduce additional integrated services designed to make sustainable choices easier and more convenient for everyday consumers.
