French AI company Mistral AI has acquired Austrian startup Emmi AI as part of its broader push into industrial and applied AI technologies.

The deal marks Mistral AI’s second acquisition following its earlier purchase of cloud infrastructure startup Koyeb and reflects the company’s growing focus on enterprise and scientific applications beyond large language models.

Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Bringing AI To Industrial Engineering Simulations

Founded in 2024, Emmi AI develops physics-based AI systems capable of generating complex engineering simulations within seconds.

Its technology is designed to accelerate industrial research and development workflows across sectors including aerospace, automotive, semiconductors, and energy infrastructure.

The startup focuses on computationally intensive processes such as fluid dynamics simulations, thermal analysis, material stress testing, and industrial safety modelling.

By replacing traditional simulation workflows that can take hours or days, the company aims to significantly reduce engineering and product development timelines.

Rapid Growth Before Acquisition

The AI Startup from Upper-Austria (Linz) had emerged as one of Austria’s fastest-growing AI startups after securing a €15 million seed funding round in 2025.

The company reportedly entered the acquisition process with strong commercial traction, multiple industrial contracts, and more than two years of financial runway.

Its investors included 3VC, Speedinvest, Serena, and PUSH VC.

The startup’s team of more than 30 researchers and engineers is expected to join Mistral AI’s applied science and industrial AI divisions later this year.

Expanding Mistral’s Industrial AI Strategy

According to Arthur Mensch, co-founder and CEO of Mistral AI, the acquisition strengthens the company’s position in industrial AI and advanced enterprise systems.

“This strategic acquisition strengthens our position in industrial AI and allows us to support manufacturers operating in highly complex sectors such as aerospace, automotive, and semiconductors,” Mensch said.

“It enables customers to accelerate R&D workflows, solve large-scale engineering challenges, and modernise core industrial processes using AI.”

Focus On Applied Science And Engineering

Johannes Brandstetter, co-founder and Chief Science Officer of Emmi AI, said the company’s mission has always focused on solving highly demanding physical and industrial problems through AI-driven simulation systems.

“At Emmi AI, we focused on tackling complex engineering and physical challenges ranging from power grid stabilisation to injection moulding simulations and automotive safety testing,” Brandstetter said.

“Joining Mistral AI gives us the opportunity to scale these technologies within a much larger AI ecosystem.”
