MESH, a spin-off from ETH Zurich, has secured $3.8 million in an oversubscribed seed funding round to accelerate its international expansion.
The round includes backing from ABB Robotics Ventures, Apprecia Capital, Shimizu Corporation, Sika, buildify.earth, and Aargauische Kantonalbank.
From Research To Real-World Deployment
Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Aargau, MESH has rapidly transitioned its technology from academic research into industrial applications. Its solutions are already deployed in rebar shops and prefabrication facilities across Switzerland.
To date, the platform has processed more than one million rebar elements, including contributions to large-scale infrastructure projects such as the Gotthard Base Tunnel.
Bridging The Gap Between Digital And Physical Construction
While construction design has become increasingly digital, on-site execution remains largely manual. The company aims to close this gap with a combined software and robotics platform tailored specifically for the rebar industry.
Its system enables industrial robots to handle, position, and assemble rebar automatically. Unlike traditional automation solutions designed for repetitive tasks, MESH’s platform is highly flexible allowing robots to switch between different designs instantly without complex reprogramming.
Improving Efficiency, Safety And Quality
By automating rebar production, MESH helps construction companies increase productivity while reducing physical strain on workers. The platform also integrates digital quality control, minimising errors and ensuring consistent output.
This approach not only speeds up fabrication but also improves safety by reducing repetitive manual tasks on-site.
Backed By Industry Leaders
Through partnerships with global players such as ABB Robotics, Shimizu Corporation, and Sika, MESH is positioning itself to scale its technology internationally.
Scaling Internationally
The newly raised capital will be used to expand into new markets, strengthen strategic partnerships, and further develop business models that simplify adoption for construction companies. It will also support team growth as the company scales operations.
Marc Segura, President of ABB Robotics, highlighted the potential of automation in construction, noting that rebar automation can address labour shortages, improve safety, and deliver higher productivity and quality.
Ammar Mirjan, CEO and co-founder of MESH, added that the investment marks a key milestone in bringing digital efficiency to physical construction, enabling the company to scale its technology globally.
