Munich-based Marvel Fusion has raised an additional €50 million in an extension of its Series B round, bringing the total raised in that round to €113 million and its overall funding to €385 millions.

This includes €170 million in private capital and €215 million in public project collaborations.

Backed by Major New and Returning Investors

The new investment came from notable backers including EQT Ventures, Siemens Energy Ventures, and the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, with the EIC making its first-ever equity investment in a fusion energy company. Existing investors Tengelmann Ventures and Bayern Kapital also contributed to the round.

“Solving fusion would be a generation-defining breakthrough,” said Ted Persson, Partner at EQT Ventures. “Marvel Fusion’s team has consistently shown that fusion energy is closer than ever, and we’re thrilled to join them.”

Aiming to Build the First Laser-Driven Fusion Power Plant

This latest funding round supports Marvel Fusion’s transition from R&D to industrial execution. A major milestone in this effort is the planned construction of a $150 million laser facility in partnership with Colorado State University.

Marvel is also deepening its collaboration with Siemens Energy to develop a conceptual design for a fully integrated fusion power plant, combining Marvel’s fusion tech with Siemens’ expertise in heat transfer and energy conversion systems.

“Bringing on the EIC Fund, EQT Ventures, and Siemens Energy provides not just funding but strategic support to move toward our first fusion prototype,” said Moritz von der Linden, Founder and CEO of Marvel Fusion.

Industrial Scale-Up and Laser Innovation

Marvel Fusion is currently developing two high-powered laser prototypes and laying the groundwork for scaling laser manufacturing, a key requirement for achieving the energy output necessary for economically viable fusion.

“We are supporting Marvel Fusion’s early-stage laser production and their broader mission to commercialize fusion energy,” said Antonia Schmalz from SPRIND.

Fusion Energy: A Clean Power Future

Founded in 2019, Marvel Fusion is developing a next-gen fusion technology that leverages advancements in laser physics and nanoscience to improve the likelihood and efficiency of fusion reactions. The company is working to create a safe, clean, and scalable alternative to fossil fuels, aiming to provide a reliable baseload energy source that’s both sustainable and globally deployable.

With strong private and public backing, Marvel Fusion is positioning itself as a leader in the race to commercial fusion energy, with the ambition to deliver the world’s first laser-based fusion power plant.
