Latent Technology, a London-based AI animation company, has secured €6.9 million in seed funding to revolutionize how characters move in virtual environments.

The round was co-led by AlbionVC and Spark Capital, with additional support from Root Ventures and Alumni Ventures.

Building dynamic, reactive character motion

Founded in 2022 by Jack Harmer and Jorge del Val, Latent Technology replaces traditional animation sequences with real-time, physics-based character responses. Its proprietary system, Phoenix, enables game characters to move independently and adapt dynamically to in-game changes—paving the way for more immersive and lifelike gameplay.

A leap forward in animation workflows

Latent’s Generative Physics Animation approach allows developers to bypass pre-recorded animations. Instead, characters react to the environment and player inputs in real time, significantly reducing development costs as AAA game budgets continue to rise. The company’s upcoming Latent Behaviour Engine is currently being tested with selected studios, with two tech demos planned for later this year.

Experienced team and industry validation

CEO Jorge del Val brings a decade of experience in deep learning for gaming and academia, while CTO Jack Harmer, a PhD in Physics, previously worked on reinforcement learning and AI tools in game studios. Their goal is to deliver not just smarter workflows but entirely new gaming experiences.

Funding to support growth and product development

The new capital will accelerate Latent’s product roadmap and support its push into the game development ecosystem. As investors like AlbionVC suggest, Latent Technology aims to become foundational infrastructure for the next generation of real-time interactive experiences.
