Irrigreen, the Minnesota-based startup reinventing lawn irrigation with smart, precision-controlled sprinklers, has raised $19 million in Series A funding, bringing its total to nearly $34 million.

The round includes both new and returning investors such as Natural Ventures, Burnt Island Ventures, Ulu Ventures, MFV Partners, Tamiami, and Sum Ventures.

At a time when climate change is intensifying drought conditions and outdated sprinkler systems continue to waste billions of gallons of water, Irrigreen is offering a modern, tech-first solution to a deeply inefficient legacy system.

“We’re not just upgrading sprinklers—we’re redefining what outdoor smart tech can do,” said Shane Dyer, CEO and co-founder.

The Idea: Inkjet Tech Meets Lawn Care

Founded in 2014 in Edina, Minnesota, Irrigreen was inspired by a common problem—sprinklers watering driveways instead of lawns. Co-founder and CTO Gary Klinefelter, a veteran of the inkjet printing industry with over 35 patents, saw an opportunity to apply precision spray technology to irrigation.

Klinefelter teamed up with Shane Dyer, a smart home and IoT entrepreneur who previously founded Arrayent (acquired by Prodea in 2016). Together, they set out to solve residential irrigation inefficiency with a powerful blend of robotics, software, and AI.

How It Works: Smarter Sprinklers, Healthier Lawns

At the core of Irrigreen’s system is a robotic sprinkler head that can replace up to eight traditional heads, digitally mapping a lawn’s unique contours to water only where it’s needed. The system integrates real-time weather data, adjusts to changing conditions, and is managed through a mobile app.

The latest model, Smart Controller 3, recently earned a 2025 Green GOOD DESIGN Sustainability Award for its automation features, water usage insights, and seamless smart home integration.

And now, with a new AI-powered quoting tool, homeowners can enter their address to receive an instant, satellite-imagery-based irrigation plan—with estimated savings included. No more guesswork or tedious sales calls.

“It’s the lawn you’ve dreamed about—without the waste or the worry,” said Dyer.

National Expansion & Market Traction

Irrigreen currently partners with over 300 certified installers across nearly every U.S. state and is growing fast. The company plans to use the new funding to:

  • Expand its national installer network
  • Accelerate product development
  • Launch educational campaigns on water conservation
  • Enhance its AI and automation systems

With outdoor water bills slashed by up to 50% and an end to wasteful “sidewalk spray,” Irrigreen is positioning itself as a sustainable upgrade for both homeowners and the planet.

“The world needs more solutions like Irrigreen—tools that cut costs, simplify life, and solve real environmental challenges,” said Tom Ferguson, Founder of Burnt Island Ventures.

As water becomes an increasingly scarce and expensive resource, Irrigreen is showing that high-tech sustainability can be both eco-conscious and economically smart. With fresh capital and a mission-driven team, the company is poised to reshape the future of residential landscaping—one intelligent sprinkler at a time.team has both the technical depth and practical understanding to do that effectively.”
