Berlin-based cleantech startup FION Energy has secured €1.4 million in pre-seed financing to scale its AI-optimised battery systems for industrial sites.
The round was led by HTGF and Norrsken Evolve, joined by several seasoned angel investors.
Tackling Europe’s Industrial Energy Cost Crisis
European manufacturers face electricity prices up to 50% higher than those in the US or China, driven by volatile renewable generation and limited flexibility on the consumption side. This cost pressure threatens competitiveness across key industrial regions.
FION Energy aims to offset this disadvantage by deploying AI-controlled battery storage that helps factories stabilise consumption, reduce grid fees, and capture price opportunities without operational burden.
A Full-Stack Approach To Industrial Battery Storage
Instead of requiring factories to manage complex hardware and energy models, FION delivers a turnkey solution. The team handles:
– site assessment
– system sizing
– procurement and installation
– ongoing optimisation and operations
At the centre of the platform is FION’s proprietary AI dispatch engine, which learns consumption patterns, interprets tariffs and market signals, and autonomously controls the storage system. Companies can cut electricity costs by up to 50%, with no additional operational complexity.
Building A Decentralised Industrial Energy Network
FION’s long-term ambition goes beyond cost reduction. The team is developing a platform that links industrial customers into a flexible energy network, enabling factories not only to consume electricity but to actively manage and monetise it.
Co-founder Philipp Hamm says the team sees energy as an untapped competitive lever:
“Europe’s factories struggle with unpredictable and expensive electricity. Our technology makes energy strategic again—reliable, optimised and profitable.”
Investor Confidence In A High-Demand Market
HTGF investment manager Anne Umbach highlights the clarity of the opportunity:
“Industrial energy costs are one of the sector’s biggest pressures. FION delivers a solution that is simple to adopt and highly scalable—backed by a team with strong execution.”
Rebecka Löthman Rydå, Partner at Norrsken Evolve, adds:
“FION’s approach combines deep sector knowledge with real climate impact. Their flexibility platform boosts competitiveness while reducing emissions, a win for Europe’s industrial base.”
About FION Energy
Founded in 2025 in Berlin, FION Energy builds manufacturer-agnostic, AI-optimised battery storage systems for industrial users with more than 2 GWh in annual electricity consumption. The company already operates multiple systems across customer sites and is preparing further deployments across Germany and the EU.
