Vantaa-based Fiberdom, a Finnish materials science company transforming natural wood fibres into high-performance, plastic-free alternatives, has raised €3.5 million in new funding.
The round was led by Heino Group, with new investors Nordic Foodtech VC and Holdix Oy, and included a €600K grant from Business Finland.
Scaling a Sustainable Alternative to Plastic
Founded in 2019, Fiberdom has developed a proprietary, patented process that converts FSC-certified wood fibres into a durable, formable material that is:
- 100% plastic-free
- Recyclable and home-compostable
- Suitable for food-contact, packaging, storage, and even interior design
The company has already commercialised its first product—eco-friendly single-use cutlery that meets the EU’s Single-Use Plastics Directive. The cutlery is available in major Finnish retailers and B2B outlets.
“This investment reflects strong confidence in our team and mission,” said Tomi Järvenpää, General Manager at Fiberdom. “We’re answering the global call for smart, sustainable materials that don’t compromise on performance.”
Funding Use: R&D and Commercial Expansion
The fresh capital will enable the startup to:
- Boost R&D efforts for material innovation
- Scale production at its pilot facility in Vantaa
- Expand partnerships for wider commercial adoption
“We’ve validated our tech commercially,” Järvenpää added. “Now we’re ready to scale and replace non-essential plastics across entire product categories.”
Fiberdom is positioning itself at the forefront of the materials revolution, offering industries a scalable path toward plastic-free, high-performance alternatives—combining sustainability with functionality.
