Fastned, the Amsterdam-based fast-charging company for electric vehicles (EVs), has successfully raised over €24M through the issuance of new bonds. This latest round, marking the company’s 14th, also includes an additional €3.5M from previous investments, bringing the total to over €27.5M. The new bonds feature a 6% coupon and a 5-year maturity, with Fastned having raised over €180M from retail investors to date.

CEO and Co-Founder Michiel Langezaal emphasized the crucial role of the growing investor community in supporting Fastned’s expansion across high-traffic locations in Europe. “Accelerating the building pace of infrastructure for electric mobility is crucial given the expected exponential growth of the number of electric vehicles in the coming years,” Langezaal stated.

Aiming for a European Network of 1000 Fast Charging Stations

Founded in 2012 by Michiel Langezaal and Bart Lubbers, Fastned is on a mission to develop a comprehensive network of fast-charging stations across Europe, enabling all-electric vehicles to charge with renewable energy from the sun and wind. The company’s goal is to establish a European network of 1000 fast-charging stations in prime locations.

Expanding Fast Charging Stations Across Europe

With over 280 fast-charging stations in several European countries, Fastned enables EV users to charge their vehicles with up to 300 km of range in just 15 minutes. The Amsterdam-based company is committed to the future viability of its charging stations by equipping them with both the physical and electrical capacity to charge hundreds of cars daily. This commitment to scalability allows the firm to make electric vehicle charging accessible and convenient for a wide range of users, aligning with their mission to provide EV charging for everyone.

Recent Developments and Expansion into Spain

Earlier in January, the startup expanded its operations into Spain, signing a contract for its first fast-charging station in the country. The yellow canopies of Fastned will first arrive in Casarrubuelos, a municipality of Madrid, located on the busy A42 motorway that connects Madrid with Toledo. Additionally, in October 2023, Fastned launched its new Android Auto App, allowing electric vehicle drivers to easily find the nearest Fastned station and safely navigate while driving.

With this significant funding round, the company is poised to further accelerate the expansion of its fast-charging network across Europe, supporting the transition to electric mobility and contributing to a sustainable future.
