Eyebot, a Boston-based vision care startup, has raised $20 million in Series A funding to expand its network of kiosks that deliver doctor-verified glasses prescriptions in just 90 seconds.

The round was led by General Catalyst, with participation from AlleyCorp, Baukunst, Village Global, Humba Venture, Ravelin, and Ubiquity Ventures.

Founded in 2021, the company aims to remove barriers to eye care such as appointment delays, limited access, insurance complexity, and high costs. Its kiosks are already deployed in malls, universities, pharmacies, grocery stores, airports, and schools, offering free vision tests that are later reviewed by licensed doctors.

Since its June 2024 seed round, Eyebot has conducted 45,000 free vision tests and is on track to deliver 500,000 annually. Revenue is scaling, the team has doubled in size, and partnerships now include some of the largest retailers in the US.

“We’ve proven the model works: people are using Eyebot, doctors are validating the results, and retailers see the traffic it drives,” said Matthias Hofmann, co-founder and CEO.

Speed meets medical oversight

Every prescription is issued under clinical supervision, and patients flagged with unusual results are referred to in-person exams. This combination of convenience and medical assurance has helped overcome early skepticism from both doctors and patients.

Hofmann highlighted surprising uptake among parents:

“At our mall locations, families stop between stores, try Eyebot, and walk away with a prescription in just a couple of minutes.”

Next steps

Eyebot’s business model combines free consumer tests with doctor verification fees and kiosk leasing to optical retailers and eyewear brands. With the new funding, the company plans to accelerate kiosk deployment, expand its product and clinical teams, and deepen retail partnerships.
