The Energy Transition Centre (ETC) Foundation in Calgary has raised over $10M to expand its facilities and programming, aiming to accelerate the city’s growing role in clean energy innovation.
The investment is supported by the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF), PrairiesCan, Alberta Innovates, CIBC, Avatar Innovations, and the Pathways Alliance. OCIF and PrairiesCan contributed $1.5M and $2M, respectively.
Located in Calgary’s Ampersand Building, the Energy Transition Centre will expand to a 17,000 sq. ft. workspace, offering structured courses, industry workshops, and hands-on training to help graduate students and professionals build skills.
“This marks a pivotal step in strengthening the local energy innovation ecosystem—fueling new technologies, talent development, and pathways to commercialization,” said Nannette Ho-Covernton, Executive Director of the ETC Foundation.
Driving startup growth and commercialization
The ETC expects the expansion to:
- Train 60 individuals
- Support 30 local companies
- Incubate 10 new ventures for commercialization within the next four years
Since its launch in 2022, the Energy Transition Centre has supported more than 60 startups, helping them collectively raise over $500M in venture funding.
This new investment builds on OCIF’s broader mandate to grow Calgary into Canada’s next major tech hub. Since 2018, OCIF says it has supported nearly $900M in investments, created 3,000+ jobs, and facilitated 600,000 sq. ft. of office space acquisitions.
