Dragonfly, a London-based AI startup helping companies make faster, smarter technology decisions, has raised €3 million in a pre-seed round led by Episode 1, with participation from Dreamcraft, Portfolio Ventures, and angel investors including Sam Bourton and Markus Villig (CEO of Bolt).
Founded in December 2024 by Sean King and Sven Sabas, Dragonfly has launched a platform that acts as an AI-powered software discovery and advisory system. Analysing data from over 250,000 software products, it matches businesses with the most suitable digital tools — delivering insights comparable to a professional solutions architect in seconds.
Helping companies navigate an overwhelming software landscape
As software ecosystems grow more complex, businesses are struggling to evaluate the reliability, interoperability, and security of thousands of competing products. Dragonfly was created to solve this challenge by giving teams access to instant, data-backed recommendations that simplify technology choices and accelerate innovation.
“A company’s success is tied to the technology it chooses,” said Sven Sabas, Co-founder of Dragonfly. “Sean and I have built startups from scratch and know how high-stakes these decisions can be. Yet there’s a lack of reliable, up-to-date guidance for founders, CTOs, and product leaders. We’re building Dragonfly to be the technology companion we always wished we had — one that empowers every company to make confident, informed decisions about the tools they use to build and scale.”
Dragonfly’s conversational AI allows users to ask natural-language questions such as “Which project management tool suits a five-person team, integrates with Google Calendar, and offers a free plan?” The system then returns tailored recommendations, factoring in integrations, compliance needs, and business context — from simple queries to complex requirements like GDPR-compliant tools compatible with AWS for financial services.
Toward an “Automated Solutions Architect”
Later this year, the startup will launch its enterprise platform, which enables organisations to map, manage, and optimise their technology ecosystems. Its proprietary digital fingerprinting technology creates a live blueprint of a company’s software stack, automatically identifying redundancies, security risks, and optimisation opportunities.
The latest funding will be used to:
- Expand data and AI capabilities to enhance precision and coverage
- Develop advanced recommendation features for enterprise users
- Advance the company’s mission to build an Automated Solutions Architect, capable of autonomously designing and optimising complex technology architectures
“Before Dragonfly, it was nearly impossible to understand how software tools really fit within a company’s existing stack,” said Hector Mason, General Partner at Episode 1. “As AI reshapes how software is built and integrated, Dragonfly’s platform will help every organisation operate with far greater efficiency and confidence.”
