Amsterdam’s Biotech Booster programme has received €196.4 million from the Dutch National Growth Fund, solidifying support for its mission to bridge the gap between biotechnology research and market applications.
This latest injection comes as part of a larger €246 million commitment made in 2022 and will allow the programme to operate until at least 2032.
Focus on Collaboration and Innovation
Biotech Booster brings together public and private partners under five thematic clusters, including Industrial Biotechnology, AgroFood, and Human Health. It provides startups and researchers with funding, mentorship, and networking support to commercialize breakthroughs—from creating sustainable agriculture solutions to medical diagnostics.
Supporting a Pipeline of Projects
Since its inception, Biotech Booster Programme has supported over 70 projects and plans to expand further with the 2026 cohort. The programme tackles the “valley of death” between research and commercialization by offering structured guidance and capital to promising biotech initiatives.
A Strategic Move for National Competitiveness
Backed by institutions like Hollandbio, DSM Firmenich, and J&J, Biotech Booster Programme aims to enhance the Netherlands’ international leadership in biotech. CEO Nettie Buitelaar emphasized that the funding not only validates past success but strengthens the sector’s ability to solve challenges in health, sustainability, and food security.
