Italian technology company Bending Spoons has raised $710 million in new funding, pushing its valuation to $11 billion, just one day after announcing its acquisition of AOL, one of the internet’s most iconic early brands.
The round was led by T. Rowe Price, with participation from Baillie Gifford, Cox Enterprises, Durable Capital Partners, Fidelity, and other institutional investors.
A Major Leap in Valuation
The new raise marks a dramatic surge in valuation for Bending Spoons, which was last valued at $2.8 billion in 2024 — representing nearly a fourfold increase in just over a year.
Of the total $710 million, $270 million represents new capital, while $440 million came from existing shareholders selling a portion of their equity. The company has also secured a $2.8 billion debt facility to support its ongoing acquisition strategy.
Powering Growth Through Acquisitions and AI
Bending Spoons is known for reviving and scaling legacy tech brands, a strategy that has made it one of Europe’s fastest-growing private technology companies. In addition to AOL, it has acquired Vimeo, WeTransfer, and Evernote, integrating them into its growing ecosystem of consumer and productivity platforms.
The company plans to use the latest funding to fuel further acquisitions and enhance its AI capabilities, which are becoming a cornerstone of its strategy to modernize and monetize older digital assets.
“This moment is a validation of a decade’s worth of work and an important recognition of what we’ve accomplished so far,” said Luca Ferrari, Co-founder and CEO of Bending Spoons.
“We remain early in our journey and have ambitious plans for continued investment and growth.”
The New Face of Europe’s Tech Consolidation
Founded in 2013, Bending Spoons has earned a reputation for acquiring underutilized technology brands and transforming them into scalable, profitable businesses. With operations spanning consumer apps, cloud storage, and media platforms, the company now stands as one of Europe’s most valuable private tech firms.
The acquisition of AOL — once a global internet giant — symbolizes Bending Spoons’ ambition to revive digital brands with cultural legacy through modern design, engineering, and AI.
