Zurich-based AVIAN has secured €2.2 million ($2.6 million) in pre-seed funding to scale its AI-driven thermal monitoring technology designed to prevent industrial fires and equipment failures.
The round was led by Founderful.
Founded in 2023 by Drew Hanover and Thomas Laengle, AVIAN develops always-on monitoring systems that combine thermal imaging, anomaly detection, and predictive analytics to improve operational safety in industrial environments.
The company operated profitably and without external funding for its first two years before raising capital.
Using AI To Detect Industrial Risks Before Failure
AVIAN’s platform continuously monitors industrial infrastructure such as motors, bearings, electrical systems, and conveyor equipment using infrared cameras and AI-powered analysis.
The system learns the normal thermal behaviour of each site and automatically identifies abnormal heat patterns or operational changes that may signal an upcoming failure or fire risk.
Its technology also includes automated alerts, predictive maintenance insights, and reporting systems designed to reduce downtime and prevent costly incidents before they escalate.
The company says its systems are already deployed across approximately 50 industrial facilities in nine countries.
Expanding Across High-Risk Industries
AVIAN currently works with operators across industries including recycling, wood processing, and manufacturing, sectors where overheating equipment and combustible dust can create significant fire hazards.
The startup plans to use the new funding to expand its engineering and deployment teams while accelerating growth into additional industries such as chemicals, maritime, oil and gas, and industrial recycling.
The company is also targeting more than $1 million in annual recurring revenue during 2026.
Building Industrial AI Around Real Operational Needs
According to co-founder and CTO Drew Hanover, the company’s focus has always been on solving operational problems that industrial teams face daily rather than simply adding more monitoring hardware.
“Operators do not need another camera system,” Hanover said.
“They need to know when a bearing is overheating before it causes a fire or shuts down production. We spent two years bootstrapping the business to make sure we built something industrial teams genuinely trusted before scaling further.”
