Augur, a cybersecurity startup using AI to predict attacks months in advance, has raised $7 million in seed funding to scale its predictive threat prevention platform.

The round was led by General Advance, with participation from high-profile industry figures including executives from SentinelOne, Prelude, Resourcely, Shift5, Amazon, Google, and Cloudflare.

Alongside the funding, the company announced a full rebrand from SecLytics to Augur, marking a strategic pivot and renewed focus on preemptive cybersecurity.

From Reactive Defense to Predictive Protection

Traditional cybersecurity tools react to threats after they’ve breached defenses—relying on malware signatures, indicators of compromise (IOCs), and post-incident forensic analysis. Augur flips that model.

The company’s platform uses agentic AI to identify and monitor attacker infrastructure months before it’s used in active campaigns. This allows defenders to shut down threats at the earliest stage—before any code is executed or systems are breached.

“Adversaries are already leveraging AI,” said Joe Lea, Augur co-founder and CEO. “Security teams need AI that works for them—predicting threats, not just reacting to them.”

How It Works

Founded in 2024 by Joe Lea and Dr. Saeed Abu Nimeh, Augur scans and analyzes global internet behavior to identify signs of malicious infrastructure deployment. The platform then autonomously flags potential threats and integrates with existing security tools, allowing teams to block attacks preemptively or triage insights for manual response.

Key features include:

  • Predictive detection of attacker infrastructure
  • Integration with SIEM/SOAR tools for automated response
  • Extremely low false positive rate (0.007%)
  • Full control over threat blocking and escalation

Augur is already used by enterprises in finance, healthcare, energy, telecom, and critical infrastructure, enabling them to move from passive defense to proactive cyber resilience.

Track Record in Major Incidents

Augur has proven effective in high-stakes scenarios, reportedly identifying infrastructure related to:

  • The APT29/SolarWinds supply chain breach
  • DarkSide’s ransomware attack on Colonial Pipeline
  • Log4j exploit campaigns
  • The Cl0p/MOVEit ransomware operation
  • Volt Typhoon’s targeting of U.S. infrastructure
  • Breaches linked to UNC5537, ALPHV/BlackCat, and Change Healthcare

This history of early detection positions Augur as one of the few platforms capable of forecasting attacker behavior well before most threat intelligence providers raise red flags.

A New Era of Anticipatory Cybersecurity

With its newly secured capital, Augur will accelerate platform development, expand its customer base, and further build out its AI threat modeling capabilities.

“Our platform brings together a decade of machine learning, behavioral analytics, and real-world telemetry into a continuously evolving threat intelligence engine,” said Lea. “We’re here to give defenders the edge they’ve been missing.”

“Augur represents the cutting edge of cybersecurity innovation,” added Ely Kahn, VP at SentinelOne and an investor in the round. “They’ve built something truly differentiated—an AI-native platform that anticipates threats with precision. This team is positioned for breakout success.”

With a predictive-first approach and support from some of cybersecurity’s most respected minds, Augur is reshaping the future of threat detection—where the best defense is knowing an attack is coming long before it begins.
