Another Earth, a Vienna-based Earth observation technology company, has secured €3.5 million in new funding to expand its artificial intelligence platform for generating synthetic satellite data.

The round included Wake-Up Capital along with existing investors Rockstart, Inovexus, and Stamco AG, and additional support from the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) and Amazon Web Services. The funding will support the expansion of the company’s AI-powered geospatial simulation tools and their deployment in environmental monitoring projects worldwide.

What The Company Does

Another Earth develops software that generates synthetic satellite imagery and geospatial datasets using generative AI and advanced 3D modelling techniques.

The company’s platform simulates realistic satellite observations of landscapes, infrastructure, and environmental systems. These datasets can be used to train artificial intelligence models that analyze satellite imagery for tasks such as monitoring ecosystems, assessing land use, and tracking infrastructure development.

By automatically generating fully labeled datasets, the platform allows organizations to train machine learning models without relying entirely on real satellite imagery.

The company’s system also produces segmented and annotated geospatial data, which reduces the need for manual labeling—one of the most time-consuming steps in developing Earth observation AI systems.

Market Context / Industry Background

Artificial intelligence is increasingly used in Earth observation to monitor environmental changes, manage natural resources, and assess infrastructure development.

Satellite imagery can provide valuable insights into areas such as deforestation, agricultural activity, urban expansion, and environmental degradation. However, building accurate AI models for these applications requires large volumes of labeled training data.

In many regions, obtaining such data can be difficult or costly. High-resolution satellite imagery often comes with licensing costs, and the process of manually labeling geospatial data can require extensive human effort.

Synthetic data generation has emerged as a potential solution to these challenges. By simulating satellite observations digitally, organizations can generate large datasets for training AI models without the constraints associated with real-world data collection.

These technologies may help expand Earth observation capabilities in regions where access to satellite imagery and labeled datasets remains limited.

Founder / Investor Commentary

Another Earth CEO and co-founder Maya Pindeus said the company’s platform aims to address one of the main obstacles facing Earth observation AI: the lack of accessible training data.

“The biggest barrier to scaling Earth observation AI is the scarcity and prohibitive cost of high-quality training data,” Pindeus said.

She explained that synthetic datasets can allow organizations to train predictive models even in regions where satellite data is limited.

“With this funding and our deployment into vital ecosystems spanning from Latin America to Africa, we are generating data where there is none,” she said.

Pindeus added that improved access to environmental data could help organizations shift from reactive responses to environmental crises toward more predictive monitoring systems.

Growth Plans / Use Of Funds

Another Earth plans to use the new funding to expand its Synthetic Data Platform and accelerate deployment of its geospatial simulation technology.

The company is already working on environmental monitoring initiatives in several regions. In Sub-Saharan Africa, Another Earth collaborates with GeoTerra Image to monitor the environmental impact of mining and industrial activity.

The company is also expanding operations in Brazil through a partnership with NovaTerra, focusing on applications such as deforestation detection, agricultural monitoring, and climate risk analysis.

With the new investment, Another Earth intends to scale the rollout of its Synthetic Data Engine and produce high-resolution datasets tailored for biodiversity monitoring, land use analysis, and environmental risk assessment.

The company’s near-term focus includes expanding its presence in Brazil and Sub-Saharan Africa, regions where environmental monitoring is increasingly important for both conservation and economic planning.
