Swedish semiconductor startup AlixLabs has closed a €15 million Series A funding round to accelerate the development and commercialisation of its atomic-level etching technology.
The investment includes a strategic contribution from Stephen Industries, building on a previously announced €14.1 million round in late 2025 led by Global Brain and other institutional investors. The final tranche was completed in early 2026.
Enabling The Next Generation Of Chip Manufacturing
Founded in 2019 as a spinout from Lund University, AlixLabs focuses on Atomic Layer Etching (ALE), a technology designed to enable the production of ultra-small semiconductor structures below 20 nanometers.
As chipmakers push beyond the limits of traditional lithography, ALE is emerging as a critical method for achieving higher precision and performance in advanced semiconductor devices.
APS™ Technology For Precision And Efficiency
At the core of AlixLabs’ innovation is its proprietary APS™ (Atomic Pitch Splitting) technology, which enables more efficient and accurate fabrication at nanoscale levels.
By reducing the number of process steps required, the company’s approach lowers manufacturing costs while increasing throughput. Its solutions are designed to integrate seamlessly into existing semiconductor production workflows.
Supporting More Sustainable Production
In addition to performance improvements, AlixLabs aims to make chip manufacturing more sustainable by reducing energy, water consumption, and overall resource usage.
Scaling Technology And Industry Partnerships
The newly secured funding will be used to accelerate product development, expand technical capabilities, and strengthen collaborations with semiconductor manufacturers worldwide.
According to Jonas Sundqvist, the addition of industrial expertise is key to the company’s next phase:
“Stephen Industries brings valuable experience in scaling technology companies. This support is crucial as we move from development toward broader commercialisation of our APS™ platform.”
Kustaa Poutiainen added that the technology shows strong parallels to earlier breakthroughs in semiconductor processing:
“ALE has the potential to follow a similar path to other foundational technologies in this space, evolving from niche innovation to industry standard.”
