Dundee-based aquaculture technology company Ace Aquatec has raised £10 million (approx. €11.7 million) to scale its welfare-first fish farming solutions.

The round includes £7.5 million in equity funding and a £2.5 million debt facility. The investment was led by Stolt Ventures, with participation from Scottish Enterprise and Aqua-Spark.

The oversubscribed round will also remain open post-close to allow additional investor participation. Financial advisory support was provided by Aquamarine – Impact Capital Partners.

AI-powered aquaculture and international growth

Ace Aquatec will use the capital to hire 15 new staff across its Dundee, Glasgow, and Chile offices, focusing on roles in artificial intelligence, sensor development, and machine learning. The company aims to enhance its real-time data tools to help farmers improve fish welfare, reduce mortality, and boost profitability.

“Our customer is at the heart of everything we do, and this investment allows us to meet the needs of farmers globally by expanding our portfolio, hiring top talent, and deepening our data capabilities,” said CEO Nathan Pyne-Carter.

Humane harvesting and acoustic marine tech

Founded with a focus on sustainability and fish welfare, Ace Aquatec builds AI-enabled camera systems that monitor fish weight, health, and species identification. It also develops electric-based humane slaughter systems and sea lice removal tools.

The company’s acoustic devices use sound technology to protect marine life during offshore construction and deter predators like seals from salmon farms without harm.

Investor confidence in global vision

As part of the funding, Axel de Mégille, Head of Stolt Ventures, will join Ace Aquatec’s board as a non-executive director. De Mégille brings experience from software and blockchain ventures, including Signol and WaveBL.

“This investment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing world-class innovative solutions to the aquaculture sector globally,” said de Mégille.

With strong local support from Scottish Enterprise and long-term backing from Aqua-Spark, Ace Aquatec is now positioned to become a global leader in ethical and efficient aquaculture technologies.
