Finnish weather technology company Skyfora has secured €6.5 million in funding to accelerate the rollout of its telecom-powered atmospheric sensing network and expand its weather intelligence platform for AI-driven forecasting.

The round attracted participation from Eviny Ventures, Ugly Duckling Ventures, LUMO Labs, and the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, alongside non-dilutive support from Business Finland.

The investment will help Skyfora scale its proprietary weather data infrastructure, strengthen partnerships with telecom operators, and support the commercial launch of new data products across Europe, the United States, and the Middle East.

Transforming Telecom Networks Into Weather Sensors

Weather forecasting continues to face a critical data challenge. Despite significant advances in artificial intelligence and climate modeling, large portions of the Earth’s atmosphere remain under-monitored, limiting the quality and accuracy of forecasts.

Skyfora is addressing this challenge by turning existing telecommunications infrastructure into a distributed weather sensing network.

Using patented technology, the company analyzes GNSS signals from telecom towers and dedicated sensing equipment to generate real-time atmospheric measurements without requiring operators to install new hardware.

This software-driven approach enables telecom providers to unlock additional value from existing infrastructure while contributing to a new generation of weather and climate intelligence.

Building The Data Layer For AI Weather Forecasting

As AI becomes increasingly important in weather prediction, access to large-scale, high-frequency atmospheric data is emerging as a competitive advantage.

Skyfora’s platform delivers high-resolution measurements of atmospheric moisture and weather conditions that can be integrated into AI forecasting models, numerical weather prediction systems, and operational decision-making platforms.

The company believes its technology can significantly improve forecasting accuracy while providing organizations with more actionable climate and weather intelligence.

Supporting Critical Industries Worldwide

Skyfora’s data is designed to support industries where weather conditions directly impact operations and financial performance.

Potential applications include energy production, logistics, transportation, defense, civil protection, and critical infrastructure management.

By delivering real-time atmospheric insights, the platform enables organizations to make faster and more informed decisions in increasingly volatile environmental conditions.

Accelerating Commercial Expansion

The newly raised funding will support the commercial rollout of Skyfora’s weather intelligence products, including a real-time atmospheric data API and a dedicated intelligence dashboard scheduled for launch during 2026.

The company is also expanding partnerships with telecom operators, weather service providers, and enterprise customers as it grows its global sensing network.

Founder Perspective

Fredrik Borgström, CEO of Skyfora, said:

“We are transforming existing mobile networks into the foundational data layer for the next generation of weather forecasting and climate intelligence. As demand for AI-powered forecasting grows, access to high-density atmospheric data becomes increasingly important. This funding enables us to scale our telecom-powered sensing network globally and deliver the data infrastructure required for more accurate and actionable weather intelligence.”

Investor Confidence In The Opportunity

Investors see Skyfora’s proprietary atmospheric data platform as a unique opportunity at the intersection of AI, climate technology, and telecommunications.

Linn-Cecilie Linnemann, Partner at LUMO Labs, highlighted the company’s ability to create a defensible data asset through large-scale deployment of real-time weather sensing technology.

Meanwhile, Eviny Ventures emphasized the growing importance of weather intelligence in modern energy operations, while Ugly Duckling Ventures pointed to the company’s successful reduction of technical risk and strong commercialization potential.
