Healthtech startup Ditto has raised €7.6 million in funding to expand its AI-powered patient support platform across Europe and enhance its healthcare communication tools.
The round was led by Heal Capital, with participation from Optiverder and Rubio Impact Ventures. Since launching last summer, the app has reached nearly 100,000 downloads, reflecting early traction for its approach to improving patient understanding of medical information.
What The Company Does
Ditto develops an AI-driven platform designed to improve communication between patients and healthcare providers. The core problem it addresses is information loss during medical consultations, where patients often leave appointments without fully understanding or remembering what was discussed.
The app allows users to record doctor visits or upload images of medical documents. Its AI system then converts this information into structured, easy-to-understand summaries that patients can revisit later. These summaries can also be translated into multiple languages, including English, Turkish, and Arabic, improving accessibility for diverse patient groups.
Patients are able to securely share these summaries with family members or caregivers. According to the company, data is not stored centrally, reflecting a privacy-first design approach in handling sensitive medical information.
Market Context / Industry Background
Healthcare systems across Europe are under increasing pressure due to ageing populations, rising patient volumes, and limited consultation time per patient. In many cases, medical appointments are short, leaving little time for patients to process complex diagnoses or treatment instructions.
This communication gap contributes to misunderstandings, repeated consultations, and unnecessary administrative workload for healthcare providers. At the same time, healthcare systems are increasingly exploring digital tools that can improve patient engagement and reduce inefficiencies without increasing clinician burden.
AI-powered health communication tools are emerging as part of a broader shift toward patient-centred digital health infrastructure. These systems aim to support patients outside clinical settings, improving comprehension, adherence to treatment plans, and overall care continuity.
This development may also help reduce healthcare costs and improve patient satisfaction across diverse healthcare systems in Europe, while supporting clinicians in delivering more efficient and focused care.
Founder / Investor Commentary
Ditto was founded by Tobias Polak, Bart Voorn, and Merlijn van Breugel with a focus on improving how patients experience and understand healthcare interactions.
Co-founder Tobias Polak noted that medical consultations are often too short to allow patients to fully absorb complex or emotionally difficult information. He described the company’s approach as a shift away from institution-centred healthcare models toward a more patient-focused experience, particularly during vulnerable moments in the care journey.
The investor group backing the company reflects continued interest in digital health solutions that improve system efficiency while maintaining patient-centric design principles.
Growth Plans / Use Of Funds
The €7.6 million investment will be used to expand Ditto’s presence across European healthcare markets and further develop its AI-based patient support platform.
Planned product development includes additional features to help patients prepare for consultations in advance and better navigate their treatment pathways alongside family members or caregivers. The company also aims to strengthen its platform capabilities to support broader healthcare system integration.
As adoption grows, Ditto is positioning itself as a tool that not only improves patient understanding but also helps reduce repetitive follow-up interactions and administrative pressure on healthcare professionals.
