Pillar, a construction technology startup, has raised €12 million in seed funding to accelerate development of its AI-powered operational platform for contractors.

The round was led by Earlybird Venture Capital and Base10 Partners, with participation from Italian Founders Fund. The investment brings the company’s total funding to €15.2 million less than eight months after its public launch. Founded in 2025, Pillar is building software designed to modernise operational management, financial workflows, and coordination processes across the construction sector.

What The Company Does

Pillar develops an AI-driven operating system tailored for construction contractors and project management teams. The platform automates administrative and operational workflows that are often still handled manually across the industry, including quote generation, financial tracking, workforce coordination, and project reporting.

The system aggregates information from multiple sources such as accounting software, banking systems, site activity updates, and messaging applications including WhatsApp. By consolidating fragmented operational data into a single interface, the platform aims to provide contractors with real-time visibility across projects without requiring major changes to existing workflows.

Pillar’s software is designed to reduce inefficiencies associated with disconnected tools and paper-based coordination processes that remain common in construction operations.

Market Context / Industry Background

Construction remains one of the world’s largest industries but continues to lag behind sectors such as manufacturing and logistics in digital adoption. Many firms still rely on spreadsheets, phone calls, paper documentation, and isolated software systems to manage projects, finances, and workforce operations.

This fragmentation creates operational inefficiencies, limits visibility into project performance, and complicates financial management, particularly for small and mid-sized contractors managing multiple projects simultaneously.

At the same time, increasing cost pressures, labour shortages, and tighter project timelines are driving demand for software platforms capable of improving coordination and automation across construction workflows.

AI adoption within the sector is also accelerating, particularly in areas such as project planning, cost estimation, reporting, and operational analytics. Companies like Pillar are part of a broader wave of construction technology startups seeking to modernise industry infrastructure through integrated software systems rather than isolated point solutions. The sector increasingly prioritises real-time data, predictive insights, and centralised operational decision-making.

Founder / Investor Commentary

CEO and co-founder Gabriel Guinea Montalvo described construction as one of the few major industries that has not yet undergone a large-scale technological transformation. He pointed to fragmented data systems, manual administration, and limited operational visibility as persistent structural challenges across the sector.

According to Montalvo, Pillar’s long-term objective is to build a default operational layer for construction businesses capable of connecting office management, on-site activity, and financial systems into a unified platform.

The backing from European and international venture investors also reflects growing investor interest in construction technology, particularly platforms that combine AI capabilities with workflow automation in traditionally underserved industries.

Growth Plans / Use Of Funds

The €12 million investment will support Pillar’s expansion across Italy while also funding international growth initiatives and continued product development.

The company plans to broaden its platform capabilities with additional modules covering procurement, tender management, subcontractor coordination, banking services, and other construction-related operational functions.

Pillar’s longer-term strategy is to evolve into a comprehensive operating system for the construction industry, supporting end-to-end management of projects, workforce coordination, payments, and operational workflows across contractors and construction stakeholders.
