AI infrastructure startup Featherless.ai has raised $20 million in Series A funding to expand its serverless platform for running open-source AI models at scale.
The round was co-led by AMD Ventures and Airbus Ventures, with participation from BMW i Ventures, Kickstart Ventures, Panache Ventures, and Wavemaker Ventures.
A Serverless Layer For Open AI Models
Founded in 2023, Featherless.ai provides a serverless inference platform that allows developers and enterprises to deploy AI models without managing underlying infrastructure.
The platform supports more than 30,000 open-source models across language, vision, and audio, enabling teams to move from experimentation to production quickly.
At its core, Featherless.ai aims to act as a neutral infrastructure layer—independent of hyperscalers and proprietary ecosystems.

Building Alternatives To Closed AI Systems
The founding team is also behind RWKV, an open-source architecture designed as an alternative to transformer-based models, offering a different approach to efficient AI computation.
By combining open models with scalable infrastructure, Featherless.ai is positioning itself as a foundation for companies seeking greater control over their AI stack.
Focus On Sovereignty And Cost Efficiency
With infrastructure spanning the US and Europe, the company is focused on supporting data sovereignty and privacy requirements—key concerns for enterprise adoption.
Its collaboration with AMD enables native execution of open models on ROCm, providing a more cost-efficient and transparent alternative to proprietary hardware ecosystems.
Scaling Infrastructure And Expanding Capabilities
The new funding will be used to grow global infrastructure, introduce a marketplace for specialised AI models, and deepen integration across different hardware architectures.
These efforts are aimed at reducing the cost of AI inference while increasing flexibility for developers and enterprises.
