Patronus, an elderly care technology startup, has raised €11 million in new funding to strengthen its position in the mobile emergency response market and expand its digital care offering.

The round was led by 3TS Capital Partners, with participation from Grazia Equity and existing investors including Singular, Burda Principal Investments, Adjacent, NAP, and UVC Partners. The company is developing connected safety and wellbeing products designed to support older adults and their families.

What The Company Does

Founded in 2020 by Ben Staudt and Tim Wagner, Patronus builds digital safety and companion solutions for seniors. Its core product is a mobile emergency smartwatch designed to replace traditional home-based emergency alert systems that have historically seen limited product innovation.

The smartwatch allows users to access emergency support in a wearable format better suited to everyday life, helping improve mobility, independence, and consistent usage. The company argues that many legacy emergency devices are underused because they are inconvenient, unattractive, or limited to home environments.

Alongside emergency response functionality, Patronus also offers connected services that allow families to stay informed and engaged, helping bridge communication and care gaps between older adults and relatives.

Market Context / Industry Background

Europe’s ageing population is creating growing demand for technologies that support independent living, preventative care, and safer ageing at home. Traditional emergency response systems remain widely used, but many were designed for earlier generations of users and often struggle with adoption and daily engagement.

Patronus notes that around 1.2 million people rely on conventional emergency devices, yet studies suggest only about 14% wear them consistently. This points to a significant usability challenge and a broader opportunity for modern consumer-friendly alternatives.

The sector is increasingly shifting toward connected devices, remote monitoring, and digital wellbeing tools that can combine safety with communication, companionship, and preventative support. Families are also becoming more involved in care coordination, creating demand for shared platforms rather than standalone emergency hardware.

At the same time, healthcare systems and insurers are exploring technologies that can help reduce hospital admissions and delay transitions into assisted living. Solutions that improve adherence, provide early alerts, and support everyday independence are gaining stronger attention as care costs continue to rise across European markets.

Founder / Investor Commentary

Founder Ben Staudt said the company’s long-term mission is to reshape how ageing is supported through technology.

“We want to create a world where ageing means safety, independence, and connection. Supported by technology that adapts to people, not the other way around,” he said.

The statement reflects Patronus’ positioning as a consumer-oriented eldercare platform focused not only on emergencies, but also on dignity, usability, and day-to-day quality of life.

Growth Plans / Use Of Funds

Patronus plans to use the new capital to deepen its leadership in mobile emergency response solutions while expanding into adjacent categories focused on family wellbeing and digital companionship.

A major area of product development will be an AI-powered daily companion intended to support users with routine interactions, reminders, and everyday guidance. This suggests a broader move beyond reactive emergency systems toward proactive lifestyle support.

The company is also expected to invest in product refinement, customer acquisition, and broader market expansion as demand grows for independent ageing solutions across Europe.

By combining wearable safety devices with family connectivity and AI assistance, Patronus is positioning itself as a more comprehensive ageing-tech platform.
