London-based edtech startup Gizmo has raised $22 million in a Series A funding round to expand internationally and further develop its AI-powered learning experience.

The round was led by Shine Capital, with participation from Ada Ventures, Seek Investments, GSV Ventures, and NFX, which previously led Gizmo’s $3.5 million seed round.

Turning Study Into An Engaging Experience

Founded by Petros Christodoulou, Robin Jack, and Paul Evangelou—all graduates of the University of Cambridge—Gizmo is rethinking how people learn by applying engagement principles from consumer technology.

The platform enables users to transform notes, documents, and online content into personalised study tools, including interactive flashcards, adaptive quizzes, and gamified challenges.

AI-Powered Personalisation At Scale

Gizmo combines artificial intelligence with social features such as collaboration, competition, and progress tracking, helping learners stay motivated while improving outcomes.

The platform is already used by more than 13 million learners across over 120 countries, spanning school students, university learners, and professionals.

Bridging The Gap Between Learning And Digital Habits

By integrating gamification and AI-driven personalisation, Gizmo addresses the disconnect between traditional study methods and modern digital behaviour. Its approach aims to make learning more engaging, accessible, and aligned with how users interact with technology today.

Expanding Into Global Markets

With the new funding, the company plans to grow its engineering and AI teams, strengthen its presence in the US college market, and accelerate product development to enhance user engagement worldwide.

According to Petros Christodoulou, the company is focused on redefining how people interact with digital learning:

“We’re not fighting for less screen time—we’re fighting for better screen time. People are drawn to progress, novelty, and connection, and we’re channeling that into something that helps build their future.”
