Common Wealth, a Toronto-based fintech startup focused on workplace retirement plans, has secured $12 million CAD in Series A funding to scale its platform and broaden access to retirement benefits for small and mid-sized businesses.

The round included backing from Broadbent Group, Good & Well, AgeTech Capital, Deokali Capital, Eventi Capital Partners, and Flow Capital, alongside prominent individual investors such as Jim Keohane and Richard Rooney.

Simplifying Retirement Plans For SMEs

Founded in 2015, Common Wealth is building a digital platform designed to make retirement plans more accessible and affordable for businesses of all sizes. The company aims to address a long-standing gap in the market, where smaller employers often struggle to offer competitive retirement benefits.

Through its software-driven approach, Common Wealth enables employers to provide structured savings plans while helping employees better manage their long-term financial security.

CEO Alex Mazer emphasised that the company’s mission is to democratise retirement planning for workers who have traditionally been underserved by legacy financial systems.

Strong Growth Momentum

Since early 2024, the company has reported rapid growth, tripling its employer base, increasing membership by more than threefold, and significantly expanding assets under administration.

Today, Common Wealth serves over 1,500 organisations across Canada and has built a network of around 400 advisors. It has also introduced targeted savings programs, including initiatives supported by the Government of Canada.

Expanding Product And Distribution

The new capital will be used to accelerate distribution, enhance product capabilities—including the integration of AI—and grow the company’s team.

This latest round follows $15 million in venture debt previously secured from Flow Capital in 2025, further strengthening the company’s financial position.

Addressing A Large Market Gap

Common Wealth is targeting a significant unmet need in Canada’s retirement landscape. Millions of employees still lack access to workplace retirement plans, particularly within SMEs, where adoption rates remain far below those seen in the United States.

The company sees this gap as a major opportunity to modernise retirement planning and provide more inclusive financial solutions for Canadian workers.
